    Job Description

     

    The Assistant Controller will support the CFO by overseeing the daily activities of the accounting department, including responsibility for the timely completion of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.  Supervise staff accountant, cost accountant, and accounts payable and accounts receivable positions. Be hands on with general ledger and chart of accounts, review and maintenance.  Additionally, this person will be responsible for all daily & weekly cash management, reporting and forecasting. 

     

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Must be able to manage and process accounting transactions for multiple entities under common ownership
    • Oversee and lead cash management systems initiatives
    • Provide cost accounting reporting, including development of standard costs, gross margin analysis, and investigation into cost variances
    • Provide direct point of contact with tax accountants to ensure timely and accurate calculations for all required tax filings and payments
    • Oversee month-end AP and AR closing processes
    • Monitor and develop AP invoicing procedures
    • Interface and collaborate with other departments to ensure proper approvals
    • Prepare monthly partner distribution calculations to submit for approval
    • Maintain and process corporate credit card information
    • Ensure compliance with all 1099 documentation and reporting
    • Oversee the processing and recording of daily transactions, accounts payable and revenue recognition
    • Collaborate with management, department personnel, and cross-functional teams on vendor and customer issues
    • Serve as the business unit subject matter expert for Cash, AR, AP, complex accounting solutions, and provide training and guidance to junior staff where needed
    • Help create and implement policies and procedures that streamline accounting processes
    • Work with operations to monitor and develop inventory processes focused on accurate real time inventory movement and reporting
    • Manage special projects and provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA and public accounting experience a plus
    • 5-7 years of relevant accounting work experience required
    • Experience in Public Accounting, Cannabis and Start-Up industries preferred 
    • Strong foundation in general accounting, monthly close, financial reporting, cash management, AP, AR and GAAP concepts
    • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word and Outlook
    • Proficient advanced Excel skills (Vlookup’s, pivot tables, etc) to manage large volumes of data
    • Mandatory desktop QuickBooks experience
    • Desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing startup environment
    • Superior analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
    • Ability to pay strict attention to detail, with a commitment to deliver quality and accurate work products on a timely basis
    • Supervisory experience preferred
    • Proven ability to come up with process improvements/ out-sourcing/ automation
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
