We are looking for a Divorce & Child Custody Attorney This is a flexible, hybrid position - you do not need to live in the Kalamazoo area to apply (although, if you are open to relocation, there is a possibility for a relocation signing bonus). This position requires the candidate to work in the office in Kalamazoo twice per week to meet with clients. Other in-person work may be necessary for local courts as needed for in-person appearances. Candidates interested in remote arrangements are encouraged to apply. You are not required to bring a book of business, but if you have active clients, we are able to accommodate your transition, and this will, obviously, impact compensation favorably. Every lawyer in our office is provided with the following tools to help them succeed: • A Laptop to be able to work from anywhere you wish • An assistant so that you do not have to do your own mailings or answer your own phone • Flexibility so that you can live your life and be an attorney • A communications policy that DOES NOT allow for clients to contact you and expect answers 24/7 • VOIP phones • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance for the employee is paid at 100% cost Compensation: Base of $85,000 to $110,000, dependent on experience, with bonus eligibility Responsibilities: • Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation, and forming a strategy for a plan of action • Communicate with the managing attorney, legal assistant, and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process • Draft pleadings, motions, contracts, marital settlement agreements, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases • Represent clients in court proceedings or depositions as needed Qualifications: Our ideal candidate is an independent thinker, who knows when to reach out to the team. You will be expected to produce legal work, appear in court, attend mediations, review pleadings, assist in creating litigation strategies, and advise clients. The candidate will have: • Licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan (if you are in the Michiana area with Indiana licensure and willing to waive into Michigan, please apply) • 1-4 years of experience in a litigation-centered position, with preference for candidates with experience practicing family law. Prosecutors, legal aid lawyers, and public defenders are strongly encouraged to apply • Excellent courtroom skills • A people person that is not afraid to tell your clients the truth • Research, writing, analytical, and organizational skills • Excellent planning, prioritization, and time management skills • Experience managing multiple projects or cases at once Compensation: $80,000 - $110,000 yearly
