Job Description
We are a full-service accounting and tax advising firm that provides top-tier service to clients. We operate with the same entrepreneurial and capitalist principles as our clients, with a primary focus of getting their taxes as close to zero as possible while handling anything tax and accounting on their behalf. Business is booming and we are now accepting applications from Tax Preparers with at least 3 years of experience in ProConnect software.
The Role:
We’re looking for a thorough and accurate Tax Preparer -- with at least 3 years of experience in ProConnect -- that believes clients deserve to keep the money they earn, and take advantage of every tax optimization strategy the client is entitled to. Fully in-office, working with the team in Irvine.
Earning Your Spot:
We believe in new hires competing to earn a spot on the team to prove they can elevate the company's work product and service to clients -- and we believe in rewarding them generously! We're hiring multiple folks and offering full time roles to candidates that crush it. You'll start as a contractor for the first 60 days as a "try out" period, with full time offers extended at the 60 day mark, or sooner for top performers.
If you're currently employed? You'll work 15-20 hours a week on-site at our office in Irvine, with flexible hours available. The option to jump straight in to 35 hours a week during the try out period is available for qualified folks. We'll provide the tech stack for you to work -- think dedicated computer, monitor, any other equipment you need -- so you can showcase your abilities.
The Hiring Process Step by Step:
#1 Apply online and tell us about your background, career goals, and why you're a great fit. New hires are advised to not use AI generated responses; it's not a good look because we want to hear from YOU, not a canned generic response that's the same as the previous applicant!
#2 Qualified applicants will be invited to share more information via questionnaire.
#3 After the questionnaires you'll meet with a Tax Manager via video call for a live, 30 minutes skills assessment test in ProConnect. Complete tasks and solve problems presented by the Tax Manager, and prepare partial draft personal and business returns with sample tax documents and business financials to show us what you can do.
#4 Crushed the skills assessment? Final stage is a video call interview with the owner so we can hear about you and how you'll improve the team -- and how we can help you achieve your career goals.
Starting Compensation:
$1000 signing bonus payable after you crush the first two weeks at work.
New hires join the team as independent contractors at $40 - $50 hourly during the try out period, with the final hourly wage based on the value you will bring to the team. Payroll is bi-weekly and via direct deposit. Full-time offers will be made to exceptional candidates with an annual base salary of $80,000 - $100,000 and a 15% performance based bonus paid quarterly -- so total compensation with bonus will range from $92,000 to $115,000.
Core Responsibilities:
Prepare state and federal personal and business tax returns based on tax documents and financials received, after reviewing prior year returns for. Business returns will primarily be 1120S and 1065, with a few 1120 returns.
You own the return before it's submitted for review -- clear all errors from ProConnect, make sure all financials are properly recorded, relevant elections are selected, and the best tax optimization strategies are in place.
As needed, prepare amended returns for prior year filings.
Must Have's for New Team Members:
Dealbreaker: ProConnect experience, at least 3 years, preparing both personal and business returns.
Thorough and patient. Tax returns are too important and permanent to cut corners.
Strong understanding of federal tax policy and compliance with all relevant tax laws.
Use your knowledge and expertise within our firm's existing systems and processes. Our team will teach you our approach and the best tax optimization strategies for our clients.
Experience working in Slack and Google Drive.
Own your successes, own your mistakes, be coachable and look out for the firm and your clients.
Nice to Have's:
EA or CPA designation.
990 experience for nonprofit tax returns.
Strong understanding of accounting principles.
Strong understanding of state-specific tax laws and how they conform to federal tax law.
Experience working in Karbon.
These roles fill quickly and we only anticipate accepting applications from competitive individuals for a short period of time, the next steps are yours to take.
