    Job Description

    ProSidian Seeks an Engineering and Technical Services (Engineering Assistance) Specialist - Liquid Waste Operations (EN105) to support an engagement for a liquid waste contractor (Savannah River Remediation [SRR]) at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC, which is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy.  

    Engineering and Technical Services Specialists provide engineering and technical services to Liquid Waste Operations (LWO) for various groups, functional areas, and organizations, including but not limited to Tank Closure, Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF), Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) Integration Projects, Process Safety, and Regulatory and/or Air Permitting.

    DUTIES: Provides engineering and technical services to Liquid Waste Operations (LWO) for various groups, functional areas, and organizations, including but not limited to, Tank Closure, Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF), Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) Integration Projects, Process Safety and Regulatory and Air Permitting. Provides engineering expertise and support for the day-to-day support of Facilities and Projects.

    • Takes assignments as given by LWO Engineering Manager(s).
    • Any technical information generated through completion of the assignments shall be used by the applicable Engineering Manager as technical input for problem resolution or as the starting point for the development of an approved LWO Technical Report, calculation, or other applicable technical documents.
    • The use of the technical information generated is at the discretion of the applicable Engineering Manager. Supports development, review, and analysis of process flowsheets.
    • Provides Professional Engineer (PE) review of permit application packages.
    • Evaluates chemical impacts on vapor space flammability, process operations, effects on installed equipment, and potential generation of reaction by-products.
    • Mentors other engineers, as directed. Attends on-site Technical meetings and Safety meetings, as necessary.

    Engineering and Technical Services will be provided using Savannah River Remediation Company (SRR) and Savannah River Site (SRS) processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRR.

    COMMUNICATIONS: Must have strong oral and written communication skills. Teamwork skills are important in the highly-matrixed project environment.

    EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: The candidate must be able to develop technical information and/or develop technical documents and submit/present them to the LWO Engineering Manager (or other applicable Manager) for consideration. Technical documents may include (but are not limited to), drawings, reports, and calculations. Some technical documents may require authentication by a PE. In such instances, the PE shall stamp, sign and date the documents as required.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION: Individual must have one, or a combination of more than one of the following:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree
    • Associate of Science Degree plus 5 years experience working in the Nuclear Industry, or an engineering/technical environment that is commensurate with the scope that needs to be performed. SRR/SRS experience is preferred.
    • 10 years experience in the Nuclear Industry, or an engineering/technical environment that is commensurate with the scope that needs to be performed. SRR/SRS experience is preferred.
    • When the services of a PE are required, the PE shall be registered and licensed in the state of South Carolina.

    Work products shall be thorough, accurate, appropriately documented, and comply with established criteria. All employees, in the performance of their respective responsibilities, shall conduct themselves in the highest possible standards of ethical and business conduct.  The candidate shall ensure that duties are performed in a competent and professional manner that meets milestones/delivery schedules as outlined.

    • U.S.  Citizenship Required - You must be a United States Citizen
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills (This employer participates in the e-Verify program)
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, & Adobe)
    • All ProSidian staff must be determined eligible for a “Facility Access Authorization” (also referred to as an “Employment Authorization”) by the USG’s designated Security Office.

    • Must be able to submit to and qualify for varying levels of background investigative requirements, up to a Top Secret or DOE "Q" clearance.

    WORK HOURS:

    • A 40-hour workweek is scheduled. SRS utilizes various work schedules; including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and a 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B).
    • Work week excludes SRR holidays. Each workday has a 30-minute lunch. The candidate may be asked to work Overtime and an assignment to Shift Work may be needed to implement other task requirements (e.g., assess work activities by operations and maintenance personnel).
    • If overtime is requested, an approved overtime form must be provided before the overtime can be worked.
    • The approved overtime form will be sent with the invoice. Travel may also be required depending on the different tasks assigned.

    LOCATION:  Work shall be conducted at or in proximity to Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina

    TRAVEL:  Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings, events, site visits, or other training requirements.  Travel is coordinated with the technical point of contact and approved in writing by the Contracting Officer in advance, as an allowed, in accordance with Federal Travel Regulations.

    AREA SECURITY ACCESS: Individuals must have U.S. citizenship and the ability to maintain DOE site access. A security clearance is not initially required.
