    Position Summary
    The Process Engineer 4 will be responsible for managing new project development, optimizing existing operating assets, and leading other process engineers. Process development will span many sectors including Oil & Gas, Refineries, Pharma, and Alternative Energy. Work will include Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Material Balances, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), process simulations, equipment datasheets, and calculations to support projects. This role will also drive improvements in work processes, lead operations support, monitor environmental impact, develop dashboards and training tools, and identify and implement process optimization projects.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Engineering – provide process support for new projects, including:

    • Develop process simulations and new models for complex projects
    • Develop material and energy balances for complex projects
    • Lead development of process flow diagrams (PFDs) and process & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
    • Manage process requirements for equipment selection
    • Act as subject matter expert for process engineering in Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs)
    • Manage project permitting with clients
    • Coordinate and lead shop inspection, field commissioning, and start-up of projects
    • Manage technology selection or develop new technology as needed
    • Coordinate proposal development for new projects
    • Lead improvements in work processes
    • Develop subject matter expertise in needed key areas
    • Participate in internal and external project meetings

    Operations – support existing operating units, including:

    • Update P&IDs as required
    • Manage Management of Change (MOC) protocols
    • Optimize existing units to improve performance and reduce energy consumption
    • Manage implementation of improvement projects at existing facilities
    • Support environmental services reporting and develop tools for new markets
    • Partner with Operations to lead troubleshooting and determine root causes
    • Mentor and lead other process engineering team members

    Work Environment
    Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions is possible for short periods of time—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures. Must be able to travel to jobsites both domestically and internationally (10–25%); living accommodations in some foreign assignments may not meet expected U.S. standards. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

    Physical Demands
    While performing the duties of this position, the employee will regularly be required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; and work in a consistent state of alertness and in a safe manner. Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. on a regular basis is required.

    Skill / Knowledge / Ability / Education / Experience

    Required:

    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Process simulation development skills
    • Process knowledge of PFDs and P&IDs
    • Experience leading project development
    • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs
    • Ability to work flexible hours; some weekend work may be required
    • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record
    • Must be at least 21 years of age

    Preferred:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Chemical Engineering
    • Eight (8) to fifteen (15) years of experience in process engineering
    • EIT registration
    • Operations experience with process optimization and implementing improvement projects
    • Experience with Management of Change (MOC)
    • Experience with environmental monitoring and reporting (i.e., Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), Renewable Identification Number (RIN) generation, etc.)
    • Experience evaluating new technology
    • Experience managing and developing small teams
    • Strong process, mechanical and electrical aptitude and hands-on experience
