    JOB PROFILE SUMMARY

    GAF is searching for a Process Engineer who will assist with the design, construction and commissioning of a greenfield plant to support GAF’s ISO roofing manufacturing efforts. The candidate will participate in design reviews, construction and commissioning efforts. After commissioning, the Process Engineer will be responsible for process optimization, cost reduction, planning/implementation and assisting with meeting operational and financial business objectives.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Assist Corporate design team with plant design. Ensure compliance with construction and commissioning schedules.

    • Collaborate with Operations and other resources to optimize plant performance after commissioning.

    • The Process Engineer will lead the execution of Quality and Process Improvement projects using standard PI tools such as QualPro, MVT/DOE, and Kepner Tregoe PSDM. They will execute approved capital improvements resulting from these projects, by coordinating with managers on timelines, budget and resources needed.

    • Provide technical support to operating departments in statistical applications, process capability assessment, and problem solving.

    • Participate in and support product improvement and new product development efforts.

    • Conduct all plant product, process and materials trials.

    • Create and maintain culture to identify and implement continuous improvement ideas.

    • Lead the efforts to define and develop testing protocols for finished product performance.

    • Provide root cause analysis for all electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical issues that cause downtime of two hours or more to occur. Solutions to identified root causes are to be included and implemented where possible within company constraints and rules.

    • Perform all other duties assigned by Supervisor/Management.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical preferred.

    • 3+ years demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment.

    • Knowledge of engineering fundamentals to include root cause analysis, statistical process control, lean/agile approaches and structured problem solving (Kepner Tregoe, Potential Problem Analysis, Design of Experiments, etc).

    • Ability to translate technical data into a format/ language suitable for personnel.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings.

    • Intermediate skills in process hazard analysis and process safety management.

    • Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading.

    • Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs and walk on open grating on elevated surfaces.

    • Required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.

    • Frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.

    • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery.

    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
