Galveston County Health District is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Procurement & Logistics Specialist to support our purchasing and delivery operations across the Health District. This role begins with a focus on courier and logistics responsibilities (ensuring timely delivery of mail, supplies, and deposits) while also offering growth into procurement and buyer functions through on-the-job training. In this key support role, you'll handle inter-office deliveries and bank runs, assist with receiving and inventory, and gradually learn purchasing processes that keep our departments running smoothly.

What You'll Do:
Logistics & Courier (Primary Responsibilities to Start)
• Perform daily mail and supply deliveries across Health District facilities and community partners
• Handle cashier bags and daily bank deposits
• Pick up and deliver interdepartmental mail and supplies as needed
• Assist Central Supply with receiving and stocking deliveries
• Maintain delivery logs and ensure District vehicles are properly maintained and clean
Procurement & Purchasing (Expanded Responsibilities with Training)
• Review requisitions and enter purchase orders under supervision
• Assist Procurement Manager with vendor quotes/bids and order tracking
• Resolve basic discrepancies between invoices and purchase orders
• Maintain purchasing files and support reporting/audits as assigned
• Assist with disposal/auction of surplus equipment and supplies
Support Functions
• Provide back-up support to Procurement Manager, Inventory Specialist, and courier services as needed
• Coordinate with other departments and community partners to ensure smooth operations
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
What We're Looking For:
• Associate degree in business administration or related field OR equivalent experience in purchasing/procurement
• 1+ years of purchasing or inventory experience preferred
• Valid Texas driver's license with excellent driving record
• Ability to operate District vehicles and make timely deliveries
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and maneuver heavier items with assistance or equipment
• Strong organizational and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Sage Intaact experience a plus
• Customer service-oriented with strong time management skills
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends as needed
• Must be in compliance with GCHD immunization and ICS training policies
• Must pass DMV check, criminal background check, and drug/alcohol screening
• Ability for spur-of-the-moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles
Equivalent education and experience will be considered.
