    Job Description

    NBC News Digital Video Productions is seeking an experienced and creative journalist to produce, script, shoot and edit news stories for its short-form video team on weekday evenings. Responsibilities include but are not limited to creating original social videos for NBC News and our Gen Z news brand Stay Tuned; helping evolve the overall social video presence of these news brands with a focus on vertical video for TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and the NBC News app, as well as other emerging platforms; identifying key news moments and figuring out the best companion vertical video; collaborating with editors, reporters and correspondents on social video opportunities. The candidate should be deeply familiar with domestic and international news, passionate about storytelling, and should be ready for a fast-paced environment.

    This role is based in New York or Los Angeles and is represented by the News Guild – CWA.

    Responsibilities

    • Follow the biggest news stories and latest developments around them for possible vertical video treatment
    • Collaborate with producers, reporters, correspondents and editors to bring stories, particularly focusing on world news, to life
    • Pitch, research, shoot, and edit original social video for NBC News and Stay Tuned across various social platforms including Snapchat, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram
    • Stay abreast of stories being pursued across NBC News platforms and shows and spot opportunities in vertical video around planned or developing coverage
    • Experiment with new formats native to each social platform
    • Stay up to date on important news stories and stay true to our news standards
    • Have a pulse on what trends are percolating on social platforms
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant working experience
    • 3 or more years of experience producing, shooting, and editing social video for a news outlet
    • Willingness to work a weekday evening shift (hours through 10 p.m. EST)
    • Fluent in the culture of social media and online communities – especially TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat
    • A deep understanding of how to script and produce videos that meet peak editorial standards
    • Experience collaborating with correspondents, reporters and broadcast talent
    • A strong grasp of social analytics, and the ability to absorb feedback on content performance
    • Strong news judgment and excellent writing, research, interviewing, and communication skills
    • Experience shooting on iPhone for social
    • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and social in-app editing tools
    • Ability to pivot quickly to breaking news assignments and adjust priorities as needed
    • Flexibility to respond to breaking news situations outside of regular working hours

    • Proven track record editing content for a variety of platforms
    • Experience working with on-camera talent
    • Experience shooting on professional Sony/Canon camera systems
    • Team player who is flexible and works well under pressure
    • Passion for editorially-driven video stories
    • Ability to multitask and juggle multiple projects at once

    • Hybrid : This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
