Product Engineer Internship At Wayfarer Vans, the Engineer Intern is our hands-on Tinkerer—focused on the day-to-day details that turn good ideas into great builds. This role exists on the shop floor, in the data, and inside the process—refining how we build so every van is consistent, efficient, and worthy of a lifetime of adventure. They are responsible for improving what exists today—cutting cleaner, building smarter, and solving problems as they arise. Responsibilities: CNC Programming & Daily Manufacturing Optimization • Program and refine CNC toolpaths to improve cut quality, consistency, and repeatability. • Optimize feeds, speeds, and tooling to reduce cycle time while increasing finish quality and durability. • Maintain clean, reliable CNC programs that production can trust every time. • Work directly with builders to ensure CNC outputs fit, align, and install without rework. Process & Build Efficiency (Day-to-Day) • Identify inefficiencies in current builds and take immediate action to improve them. • Develop jigs, fixtures, and small process improvements that reduce variability and labor time. • Support production in real-time—adjusting, refining, and improving workflows as issues arise. Material & Component Optimization • Improve material yield and reduce waste across current builds. • Evaluate how materials are performing in production and in use. • Recommend practical, near-term improvements that increase durability and consistency. Electrical Systems Support • Assist in refining electrical layouts and installation methods for clarity and reliability. • Improve install time, serviceability, and long-term durability of electrical systems. • Support clean, consistent documentation for wiring and components. Troubleshooting & Product Refinement (Real-Time) • Diagnose production and installation issues as they happen. • Work hands-on with the team to test and implement solutions quickly. • Focus on eliminating rework, improving fit and finish, and increasing long-term reliability. • Translate recurring issues into repeatable fixes that stick. Documentation & Shop-Level Clarity • Maintain clear, usable documentation for CNC programs, processes, and improvements. • Support SOPs and build guides that help the team execute consistently. • Ensure improvements are simple, adoptable, and actually used. Qualifications: • Educational focus in engineering, manufacturing, CNC programming, or similar. • Strong understanding of CNC programming, tooling, and feeds/speeds. • Hands-on mindset with comfort working directly in a shop environment. • Strong understanding of electrical systems (12V a plus). • Strong problem-solving and attention to detail. • Ability to turn issues into practical, repeatable solutions. • A bias toward action and continuous improvement. Compensation: $24 - $26 hourly
