    Job Summary/Purpose

    The Production Swing is an integral part of the production team at the Sharon Performing Arts Center. This position will swing in as needed to support technical and nontechnical production departments throughout the season. The Production Swing will interface with various technical department heads, production management, company management, and front-of-house to ensure that safety, quality, and hospitality standards are maintained. Significant Productions will provide the Production Swing training to hone their skills in technical theatre, production coordination, and company management throughout its venues and locations.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    Duties and responsibilities for this position include the following; While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, Management reserves the right to revise the job or to require that other or different functions to be performed when circumstances change or exigencies require (this includes but is not limited to emergencies, changes in personnel, workload, rush jobs or technology developments)

    • At the direction of various department heads, set up, operate, and strike various audio, video, lighting, deck, and automation systems in support of touring productions at The Sharon.
    • Possess and/or be willing and able to rapidly learn/sharpen the skills necessary to be a competent hand on calls across all production departments, including patching, signal routing, console file management, effective cable management, reading and interpreting ground and hang plots, minor wardrobe repairs (simple stitches, button replacements, patches, etc.), and the like.
    • Provide technical support as needed for work calls in lighting, audio, carpentry, wardrobe, and deck support under the direction of house and/or tour department heads; this may include running deck show tracks, running a spotlight, providing backstage audio support, troubleshooting technical challenges, or acting as a wardrobe hand or dresser.
    • After being provided training, safely operate pit lift and rigging automation systems, including manual, preset, and cue-based operation of the world’s first fully automated fly system.
    • At the direction of Production/Company Management, support the day of show hospitality and logistical needs of incoming tours at The Sharon and complete advance specifications for backstage areas ahead of touring artist and promoter’s arrival.
    • Possess and/or acquire the hospitality instincts and communication skills necessary to welcome and orient touring crew and talent to the facility, discuss/find solutions for tour/promoter questions/needs, and liaise with tour crew/staff, artists, house crew/staff, and SigPro senior leadership on day of show situations as they arise.
    • Discuss show flow with tour/promoter to ensure proper information regarding late seating, photography, theatrical effects, top of show, run of show, VIP meet and greet needs, merchandise, etc. is relayed to relevant house staff.
    • Escalate and communicate safety, patron, security, and deep level technical or hospitality issues to the relevant parties as needed.
    • Assist in administrative tasks including creation of show day timelines, production reports, etc..
    • Assist with technical calls at the SigPro Studio when directed
    • All other duties as directed

    Minimum Requirements

    • An associate’s degree or 2 years of relevant industry experience in theatre/live events, technical theatre, hospitality, or a related field is required.
    • Discretion while working with high-profile individuals and VIPs is a primary requirement of this position.
    • Attention to detail, punctuality, hospitality, and humility are necessary for the success of this position.
    • Ability and enthusiasm to learn and operate a variety of backstage theatrical technical elements with guidance from various department leads.
    • Highly proficient in operating within an Office365 environment, particularly Outlook and Teams
    • Ability to learn, use, and leverage technology in the course of your work.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills with supervisors, peers, and internal and external clients.
    • Ability to foster a safe, humane, collaborative, organized, respectful, and energized work environment with a positive attitude and a sense of humor.
    • Basic to intermediate understanding of theatre/event terminology, understanding and background in other forms of the performing arts and their practices is a plus.
    • Work with intermediate mathematical concepts.

    Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands

    • Working at heights up to 60 feet (with required fall protection as needed), including accessing and working in catwalks, personnel/equipment lifts, straight and a-frame ladders, etc.
    • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking, traversing stairs.
    • Lift and move up to 40 pounds unassisted, up to 80 pounds assisted or with tools.
    • Exposure to loud sounds, flashing lights, and theatrical haze and fog effects.
    • Exposure to hazards such as chemicals, flammable materials, high voltage, trip hazards, overhead work hazards.
