    Job Description

    Professional Search Group is currently working with a tech company who's seeking a CONTRACT NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER IN PLAYA VISTA (LOS ANGELES). This is a 6 MONTH CONTRACT with the possibility of either extending or converting to FTE. IT WILL START REMOTE AND MOVE ONSITE IN LA A COUPLE DAYS A WEEK IN THE FUTURE.

    DEPARTMENT NAME: Security and Network Engineering

    REPORTS TO: Manager, Network and DNS Infrastructure

    POSITION TITLE: Contractor/Network Engineer

    PRIMARY JOB DUTY:

    Configures and deploys network and related systems for offices and datacenters. The duties require a consistent level of detail and accuracy in the course of execution.

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Work on configuring and upgrading or replacing network and related systems. Performs technical support duties and carries out responsibilities in the following areas (including, but not limited to): troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrades, new installations, swapping hardware and support of any network hardware to include wireless deployments. 5+ YEARS EXPERIENCE USING JUNOS AND JUNIPER GEAR IN A 24/7 PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT IS REQUIRED.

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Competency in configuration, management and operation of network routing, switching and wireless equipment including vendors such as Juniper and Aruba with moderate oversight.

    • Consistently exercises good judgment and discretion regarding configuration, and deployment of network and related systems for production network.

    • Configuration and setup of network equipment as well as Wireless equipment.

    • Coordinates with Manager and teammates about hardware deployment, configuration, scheduling and testing e.g. some project planning with peer and mgmt review. Ability to accept constructive criticism is a must.

    • Code upgrades to include switches, routers and other network devices as needed

    • Immediately contacts Manager and teammates in the event of a failed upgrade, degradation to the network or any other unhealthy behaviors identified on the network or network equipment

    • Travel and support of domestic offices may be required (LAX or IAD) as well as some off hours deployments

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Ability to work closely and integrate with a team.

    • Configure and execute deployment of production network equipment.

    • Troubleshoot basic network errors.

    • Clearly communicate, proactively interface, and effectively work with existing teammates and management.

    • Immediately report any trouble to teammates and management.

    • Work on technical aspects of both physical and remote network equipment

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A WORKING KNOWLEDGE ON THE FUNCTION AND OPERATION OF THE INTERNET TO INCLUDE IPV4 AND IPV6 PROTOCOLS.

    • MINIMUM OF 5+ YEARS OF PRODUCTION NETWORK SUPPORT EXPERIENCE TO INCLUDE CONFIGURATION, CODE UPGRADES, TROUBLESHOOTING FAILED UPGRADES, ROLLBACK SCENARIOS, STAGED UPGRADES ON MULTI HOMED EQUIPMENT TO AVOID OUTAGES.

    • Must have a basic understanding of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF.

    • Must have an understanding of Layer’s 2-4, an understanding of 802.x and other forms of port security and VLAN security as well as VLAN creation and trunking.

    • A GOOD WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF JUNIPER COMMANDS AND CONFIGURATION IN A PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT AS WELL AS AN UNDERSTANDING OF MULTI-CHASSIS OR VIRTUAL CHASSIS. Platforms should include EX, QFX, MX and SRX and virtualized equivalents.

    • SOLID EXPERIENCE WITH ARUBA.

    • EXPERT LEVEL WITH LINUX (MANIPULATING DOCS/FILES, ETC).

    • Ability to adapt to unexpected situations, quickly troubleshoot and resolve unanticipated issues during unexpected or unanticipated situations.

    • Proven ability to compose clear reports, summaries and other written communication.

    • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to multi-task.

    • Ability to solve basic to moderate issues in an ambiguous environment.

    • Ability to work with a highly diverse workforce.

    • Flexible availability.

    • VMware experience is a plus
