As a Senior Director, Programme Management at AECOM, you will have the opportunity pursue and deliver world-class programs that create positive social and environmental outcomes, leading complex, multidisciplinary teams across diverse sectors and regions, and working with key clients and stakeholders to achieve their goals.

We are currently looking for an experienced Rail program manager to lead on a sizeable, highly complex High Speed Rail program in California.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage programs that are very large to mega in size, which have high risk-reward, have a high to very high level of execution complexity and are of high significant strategic value.
• Provide the organization with highly experienced technical leadership and strategic direction for programme delivery globally.
• Advocate for ethical and safe working practices.
• Drive innovation in programme management approaches and methodology to achieve marketplace differentiation.
• Work with Global Business Lines, Regional leadership, and Market Sector Leaders to identify strategic new business opportunities and develop solutions to address them.
• Identify areas of high risk and pro-actively take action to positively impact programme outcomes.
• Contribute to the global learning and people development strategy for program management, including identification of talent and development of resourcing plans.
• Assess long-term and disruptive trends in their area of expertise, proactively addressing emerging challenges and opportunities.
• Propose skill development approaches and workforce planning to deliver capabilities for the future.
• Actively lead and support the attraction and retention of top-tier talent within program management.
• Accountable for overall financial success and delivery of AECOM Programme Management agreement

Qualifications

Requirements

• 20 years of professional experience with a minimum of 15 years in a leadership role focused on large-scale, highly complex rail programs (including High Speed Rail).
• Your track record of driving high performance, achieving complex strategic objectives, and leading large organizations in the realm of capital infrastructure projects positions you as a leader in the field.
• Your ability to navigate complexity and drive innovation in programme management practices for capital projects sets you apart as a trailblazer in the water industry.
• Your recognition within the rail industry and substantial network demonstrate your influence and impact in the world of capital infrastructure programme management.
• Your commitment to fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture will empower your colleagues to excel and thrive.

Preferred

• Ideally degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as architecture, engineering, or project management, although applications with relevant diplomas and a suitable level of professional experience may also be considered.

• PMI-PgMP, APM-RPP or CMAA-CCM Certification (or equivalent) preferred but not essential.

• Chartered status or equivalent would be beneficial.

About CAHSR

The vision for the California High-Speed Rail (CAHSR) project is to create a transformative transportation system that connects the state’s major urban centers, reduces travel times, and provides a sustainable alternative to car and air travel.

The project aims to link the megaregions of California, starting with the initial segment from Merced to Bakersfield, and eventually extending to connect San Francisco and Los Angeles. This high-speed rail system is designed to operate at speeds of up to 220 mph, significantly cutting travel times and enhancing mobility across the state.

The outcomes of the CAHSR project include substantial economic, environmental, and social benefits. Economically, the project has already created thousands of jobs and is expected to stimulate further economic growth, particularly in the Central Valley.

Environmentally, the high-speed rail will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by offering a cleaner alternative to car and air travel, contributing to California’s climate goals.

Socially, the project aims to improve access to jobs, education, and housing, particularly in underserved communities.
