The Mission offers housing, counseling, and other services to men facing homelessness, emergency assistance to individuals and families, and hope through the Gospel to anyone seeking spiritual transformation.
Job Summary: Under the direction of the General Manager, the Program Monitor gives overnight oversight to Mission guests staying in the lodge. The Monitor ensures safety, security, and compliance with Mission policies; maintains accurate records and logs; and keeps dorms neat and orderly. This position also keeps the General Manager informed of operations, personnel, and policy issues.
Dorm Monitor Duties (60%):
Monitor guest activities to ensure safety and compliance with house rules.
Check the security of windows and doors; make periodic facility rounds; record unique shift situations.
Distribute laundry soap, towels, linens, and personal hygiene items.
Open and close Mission doors at designated hours.
Notify the General Manager of guests who do not check in.
Ensure lodge areas are in proper order after guest departure.
Administrative & Custodial Duties (40%):
Conduct bag checks to prevent weapons, drugs, or paraphernalia from entering the Mission.
Answer the telephone and respond to inquiries about operations.
Respond to emergencies calmly, initiating corrective actions per policy.
Clean, sweep, and mop restrooms and other areas as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Valid Driver’s License.
Good decision-making skills and the ability to work with little supervision.
Knowledge of basic math and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; Spanish bilingual skills are highly beneficial.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Travel occasionally between Star Gospel Mission, partner agencies, and donation sites.
Ability to lift and carry or push/pull 50–100 lbs frequently.
Heavy mobility, including standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders or steps, and reaching.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in various environments with potential for exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and changing weather conditions.
