Job Summary: The Program Specialist plays a key role in supporting the continued expansion of The Store’s customer services, including the Resource Navigation program and in-house supportive programs. This position helps ensure every customer receives compassionate, personalized support in alignment with The Store’s core values of dignity, love, and community.
The Program Specialist conducts intake assessments, coordinates referrals, supports community partnerships, and assists with grant-related programs such as Project Diabetes. This position also provides direct customer service, data management, and Spanish language interpretation as needed as well as serving as a back-up to the intake specialist.
Job Responsibilities/Functions:
Serve as a primary support for Resource Navigation, including intake assessments, identifying customer needs, and coordinating referral pathways.
Submit, track, and follow up on referrals to community partners and service providers.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Metro Nashville resources, services, and eligibility criteria.
Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of in-house programs, including those associated with Project Diabetes and other grant-funded initiatives.
Assist with customer check-in and intake processes during shopping periods.
Answer incoming calls and respond to general inquiries and resource requests from customers and partners.
Maintain strict confidentiality of all customer, family, and staff information.
Perform administrative tasks such as data entry, managing reports, and creating program flyers and presentations using tools like Canva.
Retrieve and manage data to support accurate and timely reporting.
Coordinate with clinics, providers, and community organizations to support program delivery.
Provide Spanish language support to assist non-English-speaking customers with clarity and care.
Other duties as assigned to support the mission and growth of The Store.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred—but not required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a nonprofit or customer-focused role is valued.
Strong computer and communication skills (written and verbal).
Spanish fluency strongly preferred.
Demonstrated alignment with The Store’s values and mission of addressing food insecurity with dignity and compassion.
Reports to: Program Director
Schedule: 40 hours/week, Tuesday through Saturday, including all shopping hours.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, sit, type, and view a computer screen for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
