    FLSA Status and Salary Range: Fulltime, exempt position. Usual hours of work Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Salary range: $50,600 - $61,930 to start, DOE.

    Job Summary: The Early Interventionist Developmental Specialist is a licensed teacher who provides assessment and intervention services and strategies to assist in fostering the growth and development of children, birth through age three. Work is usually performed within the family’s home or within natural settings in the community designed to directly involve parents in providing family-oriented, developmental and behavioral opportunities for their children. The Developmental Specialist works as a key member of the transdisciplinary team to meet the educational goals of children served by PIC. The provider utilizes a coaching model to support the development and implementation of Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) for families. As well, the specialist provides team members and families with basic knowledge and expertise specific to young children with developmental concerns in one or more of the following developmental areas: sensorimotor, communication, cognitive, and social-emotional.

    Job Relationships: This position reports to the Team Manager. Key relationships are within the early intervention team and support staff. Position is recognized under union contract.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    Provide evaluations and assessments for children who are at-risk for or have been identified as having developmental delays

    Develop and implement Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP) for eligible children using a partnership model with families and team members that address functional skills within the context of the child’s family

    Design and implement interventions with children and families that promote the family as the key element to promote growth and development in their child. Interventions address the family’s priorities and use a holistic approach that integrates interventions regarding developmental concerns across all developmental areas in daily routines and activities

    Implement interventions that are respectful and responsive to families and are based on family-centered principles using a coaching model

    Provide service coordination to families as needed

    Facilitate transition to preschool or other community programming

    Participate as a member of a team of professionals providing early intervention using a coaching model to support primary service provider in supporting the family to meet the needs of their child.

    Collaborate and coordinated with other community agencies regarding specific children and families, as well as system issues affecting the entire community.

    Administrative duties including but not limited to records documentation, conforming to program and state guidelines, attending meetings, participating on committees and other related duties.

    Prepare for and participating in program evaluation

    Engage in a variety of training, technical assistance and consultation activities with other early childhood and developmental disabilities professionals.

    Participate in a variety of activities to support PIC’s mission within the community.

    It is imperative that there is a high degree of accuracy and timeliness in working with children, families and community to ensure best practice and accountability.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    General knowledge of normal child development, developmental disabilities, family support, assessment and intervention techniques and applications, special education laws, family and community systems, leadership, supervision and management strategies. Skills and abilities to establish and maintain effective relationships with children, families and other professions, express ideas clearly and concisely both in written and oral forms, and plan and execute work effectively.

    Job Qualifications:

    Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education or related field and have a valid teaching certificate.

    Must be able to apply for and receive a level 10, 11 or 12 on the Alaska SEED (System for Early Education Development) Registry.

    Minimum one year experience in providing parent training, developmental assessment evaluation, and educational planning for children who experience a disability or developmental delay

    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the coaching model, including the ability to work with parents in this framework

    Ability to empathetically communicate understanding of the emotional factors that influence parents of children who experience a disability

    Ability to communicate diagnosis and report progress effectively in verbal and written form with both professional and lay people from diverse cultures

    Required competency with laptop computers and Microsoft Office Suite

    Must be able to independently control own work flow and actively contribute support to team members

    Must have Driver's License and clean driving record and use your personal vehicle for transportation for work purposes.

    Must have valid Alaska driver’s license and private, fully insured vehicle to use for work purposes.
