    Job Summary: The Early Intervention Occupational Therapist provides assessment and intervention services and strategies to assist in fostering the growth and development of children, birth through age three. Work is usually performed as a home-based service designed to directly involve parents in providing family-oriented social, nutritional, developmental, and behavioral opportunities for their children. The Speech Language Pathologist works as a trans-disciplinary team member providing specific information to support the development and implementation of Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP) for clients of the organization. The specific disciplines represented by the team include early childhood or special education, social work, physical, and occupational therapy. This is a full-time exempt position.

    Job Relationships: This position is reports to the Team Manager. Key relationships are within the trans-disciplinary team and with other direct service staff.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    Attends staff and team meetings for team management, coordination, communication, in-service training, and other similar activities.

    Communicates professional knowledge and skill to team members.

    Requests and solicits information, knowledge, and skills from team members.

    Completes enrollment procedures and presents information to the team.

    Serves as the primary contact between the team and the client/family, advises team of the progress of each assigned child/family.

    Enables parents to have confidence in their ability as their child's best teacher.

    Monitors the development and implementation of an Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP) and maximizes parent teaching abilities by demonstrating effective interaction skills and by assisting parents in understanding their child's developmental level.

    Reinforces follow-through of home strategies and objectives.

    Assists parents in achieving a realistic view of their role in their child's development, as well as a realistic view of the child's needs in the context of the family's needs.

    Assists parents in communicating with the many agencies that provide assistance to them and their child.

    Assists parents in transition to public or private services when the child reaches age three, or when services are no longer needed.

    Maintains accurate and up-to-date case records for each assigned client.

    Prepares and submits reports and information as required.

    Makes recommendations to the family and the Family Support Specialist regarding implementation of the Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP).

    Collaborate with direct service staff, state agencies, healthcare providers and community-based services to support client and program success.

    Maintain professional, confidential relationships with clients, staff and community members.

    Actively participate in on-going learning, mentoring and relationship-based supervision.

    Other duties as required.

    Job Qualifications:

    Minimum educational requirement: Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy.

    Appropriate state licensure.

    Must be able to apply for and receive a level 10, 11 or 12 on the Alaska SEED (System for Early Education Development) Registry.

    Minimum one year experience in providing parent training, developmental assessment evaluation, and educational planning for children who experience a disability or developmental delay.

    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the trans-disciplinary, coaching model, including the ability to work with parents in this framework.

    Ability to empathetically communicate understanding of the emotional factors that influence parents of children who experience a disability.

    Ability to communicate diagnosis and report progress effectively in verbal and written form with both professional and lay people from diverse cultures.

    Must have valid Alaska drivers license and private, fully insured vehicle.

    Required competency with laptop computers and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Must be able to independently control own work flow and actively contribute support to team members.

    The employee must often lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

    The usual noise and vibration level in the work environment is moderate, as would be expected in an office setting. However, in the process of conducting home visits, the employee may be exposed to many different home environments and rapidly changing traveling conditions.

    Must have Alaska Driver’s License and clean driving record and use your personal vehicle for transportation for work purposes.
