The Early Interventionist Paraprofessional initiates the early intervention process with families referred for services by accessing necessary information from a variety of sources, using critical thinking to schedule initial services, decide on the appropriate referral process and establishing agency records for each child. The EI provides referral services and screening to assist in connecting to program-related services for children and their families, birth through age three. Many of the job duties are completed in the office, however, child screening is usually performed as a home-based service. The EI works as a trans-disciplinary team member providing specific information to support the team with clear communication about the referral completed by the family. The specific disciplines represented by the team include family service coordinator, early childhood or special education, and physical, speech and occupational therapy.
