    FLSA Status and Salary Range: Fulltime, exempt position. Usual hours of work Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Salary range: $56,210.00 - $61,930.00 to start, DOE.

    Job Summary:The Early Interventionist Behavioral Health Specialist provides assessment and intervention services and strategies to assist in fostering the growth and development of children, birth through age three. Work is usually performed as a homebased service designed to directly involve parents in providing family-oriented social, nutritional, developmental, and behavioral opportunities for their children. The Behavioral Health Specialist works as a trans-disciplinary team member providing specific information to support the development and implementation of Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP) for clients of the organization. The Behavioral Health Specialist is a member of a multidisciplinary team that includes Early Childhood Educators/Special Educators, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Speech Language Pathologists.

    Job Relationships: This position reports to the Team Manager. Key relationships are within the early intervention team and support staff. Position is recognized under union contract.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    Attends staff and team meetings for team management, coordination,communication, in-service training, and other similar activities

    Communicates and shares professional knowledge and skill with team members.

    Requests and solicits information, knowledge, and skills from team members.

    Completes enrollment procedures and presents information to the team.

    Serves as the primary contact between the team and the client/family, advises team of the progress of each assigned child/family.

    Enables parents to have confidence in their ability as their child's best teacher.

    Monitors the development and implementation of an Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP) and maximizes parent teaching abilities by demonstrating effective interaction skills and by assisting parents in understanding their child's developmental level.

    Reinforces follow-through of home strategies and objectives.

    Assists parents in achieving a realistic view of their role in their child's development, as well as a realistic view of the child's needs in the context of the family's needs.

    Assists parents in communicating with agencies that provide assistance to them and their child.

    Assists parents in transition to public or private services when the child reaches age three, or when services are no longer needed.

    Maintains accurate and up-to-date case records for each assigned client.

    Prepares and submits reports and information as required.

    Makes recommendations to the family and team regarding implementation of the Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP).

    Collaborate with direct service staff, state agencies, healthcare providers and community-based services to support client and program success.

    Maintain professional, confidential relationships with clients, staff and community members.

    Actively participate in on-going learning, mentoring and relationship-based supervision.

    Other duties as required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    General knowledge of normal child development, developmental disabilities, family support, assessment and intervention techniques and applications, special education laws, family and community systems, leadership, supervision and management strategies. Skills and abilities to establish and maintain effective relationships with children, families and other professions, express ideas clearly and concisely both in written and oral forms, and plan and execute work effectively.

    Job Qualifications:

    Must be able to apply for and receive a level 10, 11 or 12 on the Alaska SEED (System for Early Education Development) Registry

    Minimum educational requirement: Master's Degree in a Behavioral Health related field (such as Social Work and Counseling). State of Alaska clinical licensure in appropriate field required

    Minimum one year experience in providing counseling, child/family therapy, parent training, developmental assessment/evaluation, and educational and therapeutic planning for children who experience a disability or developmental delay preferred

    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the coaching model, including the ability to work with parents in this framework

    Ability to empathetically communicate understanding of the emotional factors that influence parents of children who experience a disability

    Ability to communicate diagnosis and report progress effectively in verbal and written form with both professional and lay people from diverse cultures

    Required competency with laptop computers and Microsoft Office Suite

    Must be able to independently control own work flow and actively contribute support to team members

    Must have Driver's License and clean driving record and use your personal vehicle for transportation for work purposes

    The usual noise and vibration level in the work environment is moderate, as would be expected in an office setting. However, in the process of conducting home visits, the employee may be exposed to many different home environments and rapidly changing traveling conditions
