    AmeriCorps Massachusetts Promise Fellows deliver the resources young people need to be successful in life by creating, managing, and leading meaningful out-of-school time programs for youth in grades 6-12. Fellow projects focus on and college and career exploration and academic enrichment. 

     

    THE MASSACHUSETTS PROMISE FELLOWSHIP achieves this by placing AmeriCorps Fellows with schools, non-profit organizations and state/local government agencies that focus on fulfilling the needs of our youth by providing: a caring adult, a safe place, a healthy start, a marketable skill, and an opportunity to give back.

    SERVICE DESCRIPTION

    South Boston-The Fellow will be the main source of contact for youth ages 11-14 in the after school program, providing dedicated homework help, steam (science, technology, engineering, art, math) programming, and experiential learning opportunities. The Fellow will also play an integral role in recruitment and retention for after school. Other potential duties and opportunities include promoting and planning family engagement events and assisting with the Tierney’s OMT (Teen Program) during the evening. The role will additionally include seeking and maintaining partnerships with other community organizations, planning programs and field trips, regular staff and supervision meetings, fulfilling essential MPF duties (time sheets, program reports, professional development, data collections, etc.), and assisting with general responsibilities within the TLC.

     

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plan and implement academic enrichment programming, including dedicated homework help, during OST time for 11-14 year olds in the Boys & Girls Club program.
    • Play an integral role in recruitment, retention, and membership development for after school program.
    • Opportunities to plan and implement family engagement experiences.
    • Plan and facilitate opportunities for experiential learning both on- and off-site (may occur outside of regular program hours).
    • Additional opportunity for youth engagement and community involvement by assisting with OMT (Tierney Center-based evening teen program) for 13-18 year olds in the community.
    • Be able to work independently and as an essential member of a diverse team.
    • Seek and maintain collaborative opportunities within the community and with program partners.
    • Maintain relationships with families, schools, and core providers for youth in BGCB program.
    • Complete required MPF data and evaluation requirements
    • Travel at least once/month for Fellowship meetings, retreats, and training throughout the Commonwealth
    • Make a full-time, 11 month commitment

     

     

    Required Experience

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Must be 18 years or older

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent required, bachelors preferred

    • Experience working with preteen and teen populations required, program planning/curriculum development/event planning experience preferred

    • Knowledge of youth development principles

    • Deep belief in the power and potential of young people to create social change

    • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills required

    • Interest in and commitment to national and community service

    • Passionate about social justice and working with diverse communities, youth, and families

    • Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as part of a team

    • Knowledge of Spanish preferred

    • Excellent organizational and communication skills

    • Must be a US Citizen, US National or Permanent Resident Alien

    • Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry both in Massachusetts and your state of residence upon application to our program (if not Massachusetts), and a fingerprint based FBI check. *Eligibility to participate in MPF is contingent on the results of this screening

    Monday – Friday, 10am-6pm
