    SolMicroGrid (the “Company”) a Morgan Stanley Energy Partner is a developer and operator of microgrid systems for commercial and industrial customers throughout North America. The partnership with Morgan Stanley Energy Partners provides SolMicroGrid with resources to accelerate the development of its assets, capabilities, and product offerings to its commercial and industrial customers. MSEP’s partnership supports the initial deployment of SolMicroGrid’s solar-enabled microgrid systems to certain commercial and industrial customer locations nationwide. The microgrids will help protect those locations from power outages while providing cost-effective, renewable power.

    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Project Development Analyst to join our New York City team. The Project Development Analyst will play a crucial role in the early-stage development of microgrid projects, from initial concept through to financial close. This position requires a strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, energy markets, financial modeling, and project management principles. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent communication and problem-solving skills, capable of working independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.

    This position is in-office Monday through Thursday, with flexible remote work on Fridays.

    Responsibilities:

    • Market Analysis & Site Identification:
      • Conduct market research to identify potential microgrid opportunities, including evaluating customer needs, regulatory landscapes, and competitive environments.
      • Analyze potential project sites for technical feasibility, interconnection requirements, and permitting considerations.
      • Assess land use, environmental impacts, and other site-specific constraints.
    • Feasibility Studies & Conceptual Design:
      • Perform preliminary technical and economic feasibility studies for proposed microgrid projects.
      • Develop conceptual designs and system configurations, including sizing of generation assets (solar, storage, gensets), load profiles, and control systems.
      • Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to ensure technical viability and constructability.
    • Financial Modeling & Analysis:
      • Build and maintain detailed financial models to evaluate project economics, including cash flow projections, IRR, NPV, and payback periods.
      • Analyze various financial structures, including PPA, lease, and direct ownership models.
      • Conduct sensitivity analysis and scenario planning to assess project risks and opportunities.
    • Proposal Development & Stakeholder Engagement:
      • Assist in the preparation of compelling proposals, presentations, and other marketing materials for potential clients and partners.
      • Support negotiations with landowners, utilities, customers, and other stakeholders.
      • Collaborate with business development and sales teams to secure new projects.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, Environmental Science, or related field. Master's degree is a plus.
    • 1-3 years of experience in project development, financial analysis, or a related role within the renewable energy, power generation, or energy technology sectors. Experience with microgrids is highly preferred.
    • Strong proficiency in financial modeling and analysis, particularly with Excel.
    • Understanding of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and reciprocating engines.
    • Familiarity with energy markets, utility rate structures, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., interconnection queues, net metering).
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.
    • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
    • Experience with PVSYST, Helioscope, and Xendee Modeling Software is a plus
    • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, Google Earth Pro) is a plus.
