JOB SUMMARY
PPL is seeking a Science Teacher to join its team at its Loring Nicollet Alternative High School. The SCIENCE TEACHER is responsible for planning and developing course outlines, presenting the course material to students, and evaluating the students’ progress. Courses taught may include Chemistry, Physics, and Physical Science, and Biology.
Loring Nicollet Alternative School (LNAS) is a unique learning community that serves students in grades 10-12, primarily ages 17-21. LNAS is an inclusive and welcoming community of approximately 57 students who are looking for a different learning experience from the traditional large high school environment. The mission of LNAS focuses on respect for all students regardless of race, sex, class, sexual orientation, ethnic background, religious or political beliefs. LNAS is a safe place for all students with student and staff cooperation and collaboration. A focus on community development, social justice, mental health, and relationship-based education is what shapes our school mission.
Our ideal candidate would reflect the above-stated mission and vision of the school in their teaching philosophy and in planning and prepping course materials. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about alternative learning and can teach the Sciences in new and exciting ways. We also welcome applicants who are passionate about infusing their own personal skills, interests, and hobbies into the classroom through one-off seminar classes and ongoing elective class options. Teamwork is a must within our teaching team; LNAS staff are very collaborative and govern school policy and programming by consensus.
