    YOUTH PROGRAM ASSISTANT

    PPL builds the hope, assets, and self-reliance of individuals and families who have lower incomes by providing transformative affordable housing and employment readiness services.

     

    ORGANIZATION:    Project for Pride in Living (PPL)

    PROGRAM:           Resident Services

    SITE:                  Fort Road Flats: 2242 W. 7th St. St. Paul, MN 55116

    SCHEDULE:         10 hours/week; September-May.  Tuesday 5pm -8pm and Wednesday from 4pm-7pm.  Both evenings required, additional hours flexible. 

    SUPERVISOR:        Haley Nelson, Children and Youth Services Coordinator

    FLSA STATUS:      Paid Work study

    SUMMARY: PPL is focused on affordable housing and employment readiness. Youth Program Assistants at PPL housing sites play a key role in our high-quality, consistent, fun program for youth in families who have experienced homelessness. YPAs bring their strengths and passions to engage youth in academics and enrichment while building supportive, positive relationships with youth, community volunteers, and families.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work with staff and student leaders to implement program sessions
    • Plan and prep age-appropriate enrichment activities with staff
    • Set up program materials and program space, assist with clean-up of program space
    • Facilitate activities during evening program
    • Develop relationships with youth participating in programming. 
    • Provide feedback and guidance to volunteer Mentors
    • Serve as a role model to youth through consistent attendance and reliability and help maintain a safe, positive environment for youth, volunteers and staff
    • Assist with behavior management and redirection as needed
    • Organize program space; keep program space clean and tidy.
    • Assist with other projects as assigned

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Self-starter and self-directed, ability to work independently on assigned projects
    • Experience with youth (after-school program, camp counseling, tutoring, etc.)
    • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving and time management skills
    • Dependable, responsible, flexible, and patient
    • Able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and engage diverse youth
