Job Description

PSF is seeking a highly skilled protein chemist with extensive experience in recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization to support the Protein Structure and Function group at our client site in San Diego, CA. The primary responsibilities of this role include purifying recombinantly expressed proteins and antibodies. The ideal candidate will have experience in most or all of the techniques listed below.

Employee Responsibilities:

• Design and conduct experiments for purification processes of antibodies and recombinant proteins, both on a small and large scale.
• Understand the quality requirements for proteins used in structural and functional studies, and develop protocols to deliver well-characterized proteins accordingly.
• Review and optimize purification processes and methods to improve yields, reduce costs, and produce consistent products.
• Analyze and capture experimental data using E-notebook, and share data in a timely manner.

Qualifications

_ Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship_

• BS or MS in Protein Science, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field, with over three years of hands-on laboratory experience. Industrial experience is preferred.
• Proficient in protein expression and purification technologies. Strong experience with protein purification techniques, including column chromatography (affinity, size exclusion, ion exchange, hydrophobic interaction, etc.), ultrafiltration, and dialysis. Familiarity with Cytiva AKTA FPLC system and Unicorn software is required.
• Experience with analytical techniques, including UV-Vis spectroscopy, electrophoresis, western blotting, and mass spectrometry.
• Detail-oriented and precise in routine lab practices.
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage uncertainty, changes in priority, and timeline restrictions efficiently.
• Capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

• Experience in molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and gel electrophoresis.
• Experience with various protein expression systems, including E. coli and baculovirus-infected insect cells, is desired.
• Knowledge of biophysical techniques for protein characterization, such as mass photometry/spectroscopy, differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF), HPLC, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), and surface plasmon resonance (SPR), is a plus.

Position is full-time, 8am - 5pm with occasional overtime required.
