    Summary:

    We are seeking a strong Distribution Facility Manager with a background in grains for an award winning, globally established organization.

    This position is responsible for the successful, safe and profitable management of all facets of grain operations i.e. receiving, grading, cleaning, drying, storing and shipping of grain and grain by-products.

    Responsibilities:

    • Creates and/or implements practices, policies and procedures to ensure operations comply with relevant legislation, regulations and/or standards and directs the activities of subordinates through scheduling of staff and responsibilities so as to achieve maximum throughput, efficiencies and financial returns.

    • Coordinates and directs receiving and shipping operations to achieve maximum handling volumes and optimum use of handling and processing equipment, prevent long line ups of inward trucks, avoid demurrage on rail cars and successfully meet shipping deadlines. This includes initiating and/or maintaining effective communication practices and work relationship with marketing and logistics regarding amounts and quality available for shipment or for which shipping will be required and regarding grain requirements and space availability, conducting ongoing analysis of position to ensure degree of liability stock sheet does not exceed value of physical stock sheet and providing appropriate and timely advice and recommendations to the manager.

    • Develops procedures to ensure most cost efficient/effective production of screening by products (if applicable) and initiates and/or participates in effective communication practices with marketing and logistics to ensure sales commitments can be met, stock levels are within acceptable limits and in conjunction with manager, conducts analysis and develops projects for annual production levels for screening.

    • Assists in the creation and management of annual operating budgets, develops recommendations and submissions regarding capital requirements and monitors operating statements, initiates improvement and/or corrective actions as required and provides the manager with appropriate advice/reports regarding operational issues, problems and concerns.

    • Creates and/or implements practices, policies and procedures to ensure provision of safe and healthy work environment i.e. plant sanitation, security of assets, operations, personnel, promoting understanding and compliance with safety policies, including facilitating and or attending appropriate safety meetings.

    • Hires, promotes, disciplines and discharges staff within corporate policies. Ensures the development and motivation of staff through implementation of training, development and performance management processes.

    • Directs staff in cleaning operations to ensure product is cleaned to export standards and ensure cleaning procedures yield net physical stock favourable on completion of a weighed audit as well as directing staff in established quality control, reclaim procedures, drying and blending of grain, ensuring all practices comply with established industry and erupting, including health and safety regulations and policies and ensuring all practices are conducive to prevention of grain deterioration cause by heating or infestation.

    • Manages loading logistics of outward shipments to maximize financial returns on shipping of commercially cleaned grain.

    Required Skills and Experience:

    • Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience in management, agri-business and/or other related customer service function.

    • Post-secondary degree in Agriculture or Business Administration.

    • High level of knowledge regarding grain grading, cleaning and handling.

    • Strong knowledge of the overall grain industry, its regulations and policies.

    • Decisions made by this position can significantly impact the business unit and company operations, finances, goodwill and image.

    • Needs to have experience effectively managing, coaching and training staff. Strong manager and strong communicator – looking to rebuild culture and keep people engaged.

    • Experience operating/managing a high throughput grain handling facility.

    • Experience managing and tracking grain inventory both book and physical bin boards.

    • Experience leading an effective safety and food safety program and promoting a strong safety and food safety culture.

    • Mechanical aptitude, capable of troubleshooting/diagnosing/investigating issues with equipment in the facility.

    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience that result in the required level of knowledge skill and competence will be considered.
