Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer, Aerospace Finishing, is a member of the Manufacturing
Engineering Team. The engineer performs a wide range of duties to maintain and improve manufacturing operations processes, documentation, tooling, and equipment to efficiently meet Customer requirements and the company’s KPIs for a variety of military aerospace grade thermal management products. This engineer must provide mature solutions for finishing operations improvements, in-process inspection, equipment and personnel performance measurement, and other related challenges.
Responsibilities:
No direct reports, but leadership and training for staff within Manufacturing.
Engineering and Operations will be expected.
Provide technical assistance to paint shop, Design Engineering, and Material Control to eliminate unnecessary operations or clarify process instructions.
Ability to interpret and communicate highly technical drawings and translate into easy-to-follow finishing instructions to ensure the necessary control for product lines.
Provide technical guidance on planning manufacturing work orders.
Work closely with all levels in an advisory and instructional capacity on the use and setup of various cleaning, masking, tooling, coatings, and test equipment.
Analyze and develop production processes, time standards, and equipment setups to maximize manufacturing efficiency, utilization and reduce costs.
Work with tool designer to develop new tooling, repair existing tooling, and investigate the improvement of existing tooling to continuously improve production support area capabilities and output.
Ability to research and advise production on replacement equipment or upgrade production capabilities with new technology. Recommend new technologies to improve staff performance, and product quality and reliability.
Collaborate with vendors to produce and present solutions to management.
Design of lean manufacturing layouts and workspaces to maximize production efficiency.
Participate and assist with manufacturing readiness on advanced projects related to new product releases by providing processes, equipment, and tooling recommendations to support the manufacturing of prototypes and first-time builds.
Collect, analyze, and present data for the purchase of capital equipment, tooling improvements, and provide department continuous improvement recommendations to audiences at various levels of the company.
Provide technical support and recommendations to both internal and external customer technical/quality teams regarding process improvements, non-conforming parts, defects, and repair/rework.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
1-2 years of experience in metal finishing (desired).
National Association for Surface Finishing Certification or similar (desired).
General knowledge of mechanical assembly, machine shop operations and practices, tooling, and fixture design.
Good organizational skills, communication skills, work ethic, ability to multitask and work on a team.
Excellent verbal & written communications - Ability to clearly present technical information.
The ability to work independent of direct daily supervision.
Computer skills including:.
Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, etc.
Ability to work for prolonged periods on a computer.
Must be able to support limited travel to support vendor evaluation, new product.
