Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) (Integrated Behavioral Health – Family Practice)
Job Summary
We are seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our family medicine practice as part of an integrated behavioral health model. This role focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of common psychiatric conditions in adolescents and adults, working collaboratively with primary care providers to deliver comprehensive, whole-person care.
The ideal candidate is passionate about mental health access, collaborative care, and evidence-based treatment.
Key Responsibilities
Psychiatric Evaluation & Management
Conduct psychiatric assessments and diagnostic evaluations
Diagnose and manage:
Depression
Anxiety disorders
ADHD
PTSD
Adjustment disorders
Provide medication management, including:
Antidepressants
Anxiolytics
Mood stabilizers (within scope)
ADHD medications (per state law)
📌 Refer complex or severe psychiatric cases (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, active suicidality) to specialty care as appropriate.
Behavioral Health Screening & Follow-Up
Administer and interpret standardized tools:
PHQ-2 / PHQ-9
GAD-7
ADHD screening tools
Monitor treatment response and medication side effects
Adjust treatment plans based on clinical progress
Collaborative & Integrated Care
Work closely with family physicians, nurse practitioners, and care coordinators
Participate in collaborative care planning
Coordinate referrals to therapy, psychology, or psychiatry as needed
Communicate clearly with primary care providers regarding treatment plans
Patient Education & Support
Educate patients on:
Mental health conditions
Medication use and expectations
Lifestyle and behavioral strategies
Promote adherence and shared decision-making
Provide trauma-informed, patient-centered care
Documentation & Quality
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR
Support quality measures and screenings (HEDIS, depression remission/follow-up)
Comply with state and federal regulations, including controlled substance prescribing
Qualifications
Required
Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
Active state NP license
DEA license (or eligibility)
Eligible for insurance credentialing
Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology
Preferred
Experience in outpatient psychiatry or integrated primary care
Comfort working in a collaborative, fast-paced practice
Experience treating adolescents and adults
Familiarity with collaborative care or primary care psychiatry models
