Specific Job Title: Public Safety Supervisor
Reports to: Director of Operations

Job Summary:
Public Safety Supervisor primarily serves as the shift supervisor and shall be responsible for the performance of all Officers, Command Center Staff, and Public Safety Staff during their respective shifts.
The Supervisor will be assigned to various special events as needed and supervise assigned staff; will ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and guests as well as the protection of university property and assets; will identify potential security and safety hazards and address them as needed; respond to calls for service and direct, control, and coordinate the response by Public Safety and University staff, as well as any external responders; ensure that incidents are properly documented and required notifications are made, that Public Safety Staff is performing in accordance to all University and Public Safety policies, procedures, and directives, and that Public Safety services are delivered in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner.
Essential Functions:
Perform duties in uniform primarily as the shift supervisor and be responsible for the performance of all Officers, Command Center Staff, and Public Safety Staff during the shift.
Supervise Public Safety Staff at special events as directed and ensure that metal detectors are assembled/disassembled when needed and that event attendees are properly screened according to relevant procedure.
Monitor activities and conditions throughout the campus and maintain radio communication with staff.
Identify safety and hazardous conditions and take corrective action as needed.
Respond to major incidents and emergencies and coordinate response activities of Public Safety and University Staff, as well as any external responders.
Act as liaison with law enforcement and other outside agencies (Fire, EMS, etc.) during incidents.
Visit and inspect fixed post assignments for each tour, and document visits in memo books; ensure that post areas are clean, neat, and all equipment is serviceable and that staff are performing their tasks as directed.
Provide excellent customer service, responding to customers in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.
Be approachable, respond promptly, and provide accurate information
Ensure that Public Safety Staff provide excellent customer service.
Assist in the supervision of branch campuses when necessary.
Ensure that incidents are properly investigated, documented, and required reports are prepared; review reports to ensure accuracy and completeness; make corrections as needed; and instruct Officers accordingly.
Ensure that required notifications regarding incidents are completed in a timely manner.
Prepare and distribute reports as directed.
Complete performance assessment of designated employees throughout the year-long performance cycle and check monthly activity reports to ensure Officers' activity is documented.
Monitor Officers' sick and vacation time.
Conduct roll call at the beginning of each shift, ensuring that Public Safety Staff are accounted for and are in proper attire and that attendance standards at the start and end of the tour are adhered to.
Communicate information at roll calls, including University and Public Safety policies, procedures, and directives.
Ensure that vehicles and equipment are properly inspected at the beginning of each tour, and deficiencies are noted and corrected.
Maintain proficiency in all Public Safety computer systems, including Access Control, CCTV, StormCard, and other systems as directed.
Ensure that the Public Safety Command Center, locker rooms, break room, and other areas of Public Safety are clean, neat, and free of any unauthorized postings or debris; take any corrective action as needed.
Have proficiency with computer applications, including MS Office, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
Perform other duties as directed.
Competencies:
Candidates for this position must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
They must be customer service-oriented and willing to take the extra step to assist people in need.
They must be certified in administering CPR and First Aid, as needed, and must be proficient in the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator.

Public Safety Officers, Per Diem Public Safety Officers, Building Attendants
Work Environment:
Public Safety Supervisors are responsible for responding to routine and emergency calls for service in and around the University, and acting as necessary. This position operates in a professional office environment as well as outdoors (as required) in inclement weather and requires you to use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.
Physical Demands:
Applicants must be in good health and must have and retain physical strength, including:
Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs.
Ability to stand or sit for 4-8 hours.
Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, and have the ability to listen and communicate calmly, effectively, and courteously.
Visual and auditory acuity to perform the essential responsibilities of his position.
Ability to operate departmental equipment, including radios.
Environmental Conditions:
Must work during emergencies like a fire with smoke conditions, gas leaks, and construction within the campus.
Must be able to perform duties outdoors during inclement weather conditions.
Must be able to work during emergencies, including pandemics, active shooters, etc.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, in-person position. May be assigned to different shifts and hours, including holidays and weekends.
Travel:
Public Safety Supervisors may be asked to work at any of our branch campuses within the US only.
**Required Education and Experience: **
Candidate must hold a High School diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of 5 to 7 years of supervisory experience in security or law enforcement.
Excellent customer service skills are required.
Possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver’s License and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
Candidate must possess and maintain a current New York State Security Guard License, or New York State Armed Guard License.
Candidate must be able to perform their responsibilities while wearing an N95 respirator mask as mandated by OSHA regulations.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
**Preferred Education and Experience: **
College or University degree preferred.
7 to 10 years of supervisory experience in security or law enforcement.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Candidate must possess and maintain a City of New York, Fire Department Certificate of Fitness, City-Wide Fireguard for Impairment (F-01). Candidates who do not possess this certificate at the time of hire must obtain the certificate within ninety (90) days of employment. The license must be renewed every two (2) years.
Candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
Candidate must be able to perform their responsibilities while wearing an N95 respirator mask as mandated by OSHA regulations.
Candidates must be able to work on all shifts, during various hours, including weekends and holidays.
