Position Title: Purchasing Agent: Manufacturing

Schedule: M-F 8:00am – 4:30pm
Position Summary:
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for procuring raw materials, components, equipment, and MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) supplies to support the production and operational needs of the manufacturing facility. This role ensures materials are sourced at optimal cost, quality, and delivery timelines to keep manufacturing processes running efficiently and without interruption.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase raw materials, production parts, tooling, and services required for manufacturing.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors and negotiate favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness; recommend improvements or alternative sources as needed.
- Coordinate with production, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure material specifications and requirements are met.
- Issue purchase orders and track open orders to ensure timely delivery and prevent production delays.
- Monitor inventory levels and assist in implementing lean purchasing strategies.
- Resolve supply issues such as shortages, quality complaints, and invoicing discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, contracts, and documentation within ERP/MRP systems.
- Support cost reduction initiatives through supplier consolidation, value analysis, or alternate sourcing.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Manufacturing, or related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (MS Dynamics AX preferred).
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of inventory management and production planning concepts.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM).
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office-based within a manufacturing facility, with regular time spent on the shop floor.
- May involve occasional travel to supplier sites.
- Exposure to manufacturing noise, equipment, and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).
- Occasional overtime required.
