    Job Title: PUR - Purchasing Asst. I EEO Classification: Administrative Support Workers

    Department: Purchasing FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt

    Reports to: Purchasing Manager

    Position Summary: Prepares, reviews and tracks purchase orders through the purchasing process. Purchases supplies for the company following guidelines determined by the Purchasing Manager.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Purchases, maintains communication with vendors, processes, reviews and tracks a variety of purchase orders to obtain supplies, raw materials, equipment and services.

    Identifies and facilitates cost reduction projects.

    Inputs changes into the purchasing system, including raw material price changes, vendor information, and system updates.

    Prepares and files purchasing related documentation on both open and closed purchase orders and prepares and completes reports as required.

    Processes raw material stock issues, issues raw material stock to job buckets, transfers and receives raw material stock to inventory using business software.

    Manages open purchase orders, delinquent orders, billing/shipping discrepancies, and returned materials.

    Facilitates monthly cycle counts and annual inventory.

    Assists receiving clerk in the receiving and stocking of all goods.

    Obtains SDS sheets on all hazardous chemicals entering the facility; if SDS sheet is missing, contacts appropriate source to obtain prior to releasing the chemical to the floor.

    Drives company van when assisting with the purchase of items from various local vendors.

    Operates forklift to unload and load trucks as needed.

    Performs other inherent duties related to but not limited to the above.

    Education and Experience Requirements

    Associates Degree in Business Administration or equivalent with 2 – 3 years purchasing experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience required.

    Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Must be proficient in Word, Excel and internet usage

    Must have valid Florida driver’s license

    Must maintain a current forklift operation license

    Must be able to function independently and have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form

    Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and procedure manuals; and the ability to carry out instructions.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees in other departments and vendors

    Must have above average verbal, written and listening skills

    Must have excellent mathematical skills and be able to calculate discounts, interest, percentages, etc.

    Must be able to multi-task with accuracy and have good organization skills with above average attention to detail

    Physical Requirements

    Finger, hand and arm dexterity necessary to process orders using a computer terminal and when receiving and storing stock

    Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

    Ability to reach above shoulder level; use both hands for simple and firm grasping.

    Visual acuity necessary to process orders, research data using computer and when assisting with receiving of stock and processing inventories

    Must have clarity of hearing and be able to communicate clearly and effectively in person and by telephone.

    Must be able to operate office equipment, computers, copiers, fax machines and telephone.
