The Gardener’s Center | Darien
The Gardener’s Center is looking for a highly organized, computer-savvy person to help keep the operational side of our business accurate, organized, and running smoothly behind the scenes.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys systems, details, follow-through, and bringing order to moving parts. You’ll play an important role in supporting purchasing operations, inventory management, vendor communication, and administrative operations throughout the year.
You will work closely with our buyers to help ensure purchase orders, pricing, receiving, inventory systems, and vendor paperwork are accurate and up to date, freeing our buyers up to focus on sourcing great products and planning for the seasons ahead.
This is an onsite position within a small, independent garden center environment. Former office managers, purchasing coordinators, administrative professionals, inventory specialists, bookkeepers, or retired professionals looking for meaningful part-time work are encouraged to apply.
Plant knowledge is a bonus, but not required.
What You’ll Be Doing
Entering and reviewing vendor invoices and purchase orders
Working closely with buyers to ensure pricing and POs are accurate
Verifying pricing and costs within our inventory/POS system
Following up on vendor credits, shortages, and discrepancies
Communicating with growers and vendors regarding billing or order issues
Helping ensure inventory and receiving records stay accurate
Supporting invoice reconciliation and data accuracy across purchasing and inventory records
Organizing operational paperwork and maintaining clear systems
What We’re Looking For
Prior experience in purchasing, inventory management, bookkeeping support, operations coordination, or office administration is required
Strong computer skills and comfort learning software systems
Comfortable working with spreadsheets, inventory systems, and administrative workflows
Strong communication and follow-through skills
Extremely detail-oriented, organized, and reliable
Able to work independently and stay focused
Experience working in retail operations, wholesale, landscaping, distribution, or other fast-paced operational environments is highly valued.
We can teach our internal systems and workflows, but we are looking for someone who already brings strong administrative and operational experience to the role.
Schedule
Up to 20 hours/week during spring busy season (April–June)
5 - 10 hours/week during slower seasons (July–March)
Flexible weekday scheduling
