    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

    The Sustainability Intern supports identification and execution of divisional and corporate, sustainability and social responsibility opportunities.

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

    • Refine comprehensive list of active 2021 Sustainability initiatives for the division to include, progress updates and next steps.

    • Develop a baseline for water usage in the Salad Plants, and work with VA Plants to identify and quantify projects to reduce that usage.

    • Liaison with Corporate Sustainability staff to support 2021 corporate-wide sustainability campaigns; by sharing divisional updates, content and images.   Assist with developing content for the next corporate sustainability report.

    • Develop a weekly Tracker to report the divisions veg/salad donations to charitable organizations.  Present the Tracker in weekly S&OP meeting.

    • Explore zero waste options for Monterey office and provide recommendations to execute.

    • Gather and analyze data needed in preparation for customer’s annual sustainability surveys.

    • Other activities assigned as time permits.

    • 2021 12-week summer internship.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.

    • Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, climb on and off harvesting or plant equipment, lift up to 15 pounds (including overhead)

    • Ability to work in various weather conditions

    • Ability to walk on uneven ground

    • Ability to work for short periods in a cold environment (35 – 40 degrees)

    • Ability to speak Spanish is helpful

     

     WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT

    • 40-hour workweek, no overtime expected

     

     TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    • Periodic travel to and from fields, Salinas offices and Soledad processing facility; mileage will be reimbursed (the Sustainability Intern will need to have a car and valid driver’s license).

     

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

    • Fall 2021 Junior or Senior majoring in Sustainability, Environmental Sciences or related field.
