    Job Description

    SUMMARY: 

    The primary role of the Purchasing Supervisor – Indirect Materials and Services is to manage the company’s supply of products and services, with a focus on effective supplier relationship management. The Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the purchasing of all materials and services that are outside of the core manufacturing direct material needs. This role will be critical in overseeing key spend categories including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Office Supplies, Office furniture, Technology equipment/Laptops, Cleaning Supplies, Food & Beverage, Travel & Entertainment, Lodging, Utilities, 3rd party vendor management/negotiations, Insurance and other sundry categories. This is a new function within the company and will allow us to invest in growth and people. The Supervisor will have Buyers reporting into them, though is expected to be a roll-up-your-sleeves leader that can manage at all levels. This person will also support the development of centralized spend policies for the company. 

    The Supervisor will also have forecasting oversight for the managing inventory for Indirect Materials across all functions in the company. The Supervisor will manage suppliers on contract negotiation, NDAs, pricing, purchase orders, and on resolving issues. The position requires collaboration cross-functionally with various internal stakeholders and externally. This position will have visibility throughout the company and their work product will directly impact the company’s ability to scale through rapid growth. 

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plan and procure materials and services to support the indirect needs for each functional area of the business, providing supervision regarding the overall purchase order process
    • Analyze forecast and actual consumption history for trends and maintain optimal stock for critical non-inventory items
    • Add immediate value by owning select supplier relationships and the procuring of key indirect materials including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Office Supplies, Office furniture, Technology equipment/Laptops, Cleaning Supplies, Food & Beverage, Travel & Entertainment, Lodging, Utilities, 3rd party vendor management/negotiations, Insurance and other sundry categories
    • Maintain and promote strong relationships with suppliers and every function within to support their collective indirect needs
    • Actively participate in efforts to drive down costs
    • Coordinates and follows up with production, warehouse, and engineering personnel to ensure appropriate procurement, scheduling, and movement of materials and services
    • Partner with Purchase Order Administrator and Buyers to ensure purchase requisites are progressing through approvals and that purchase orders are updated in accounting / ERP system 
    • Perform risk management for supply contracts and agreements
    • Control spend and build a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs

     

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL: 

    • Proven working experience in a Supervisor or Manager level role including overseeing multiple Buyers
    • Expertise in procuring Indirect Materials is required
    • Knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques as well as a dexterity in “reading” the market
    • Talent in negotiations and networking
    • Good knowledge of supplier or third-party management software
    • Aptitude in decision-making and working with numbers
    • Strong leadership capabilities
    • Proactive mindset to identify potential gaps in indirect needs and build the internal approval for purchasing requests, as well as work with suppliers to ensure that orders can be fulfilled accurately and timely
    • Good knowledge of supplier or third-party management software, as well as proven ability working with ERP systems 
    • Roll-up your sleeves mentality 
    • Be comfortable with a rapid-pace environment, with the ability to leverage seasoned skills in purchasing & supplier negotiations, while operating at the speed of a start-up

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

    • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Logistics or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
    • 5+ years of experience in a Supervisor or Manager level role with in Purchasing / Procurement
