    Job Description

    SUMMARY: 

    The Supervisor will also have forecasting oversight of managing inventory for Direct Materials within a manufacturing environment.  The Supervisor will manage suppliers on contract negotiation, NDAs, pricing, purchase orders, and on resolving issues. The position requires collaboration cross-functionally with various internal stakeholders and externally with contract manufacturers to ensure effective, efficient, and timely material planning and inventory management. The incumbent will efficiently manage the overall supply chain and purchasing requirements for ensuring product availability while meeting inventory targets. This position will champion supply chain initiatives and support the department’s strategic goals and objectives, while providing direct supervision to Buyers. This position will have visibility throughout the company and their work product will directly impact the company’s ability to scale through rapid growth. 

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plan and procure materials and services to support build plans, forecasts, and changing sales demand providing supervision regarding the overall purchase order process
    • Analyze forecast and actual consumption history for trends and maintain optimal safety stock and inventory levels to ensure product availability stock for critical non-inventory items.
    • Maintain and promote strong relationships with suppliers, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Distribution, and any other internal customers
    • Actively participate in efforts to drive down material costs
    • Represent Supply Chain in Material Review and Change Control boards as well as various other inter-departmental meetings and projects 
    • Coordinates and follows up with production, warehouse, and engineering personnel to ensure appropriate procurement, scheduling, and movement of materials and services
    • Partner with Purchase Order Administrator and Buyers to ensure purchase requisites are progressing through approvals and that purchase orders are updated in accounting / ERP system 
    • Perform risk management for supply contracts and agreements
    • Control spend and build a culture of long-term saving on procurement costs

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL: 

    • Proven working experience in a Supervisor or Manager level role including overseeing multiple Buyers within a manufacturing environment 
    • Expertise in procuring Direct Materials a plus, especially in the Life Sciences (Medical Devices, Biotech, Pharmaceutical) space
    • Proactive mindset to identify potential gaps in on hand inventory for select parts and build the internal approval for purchasing requests, as well as work with suppliers to ensure that orders can be fulfilled accurately and timely
    • Knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques as well as a dexterity in “reading” the market
    • Talent in negotiations and networking
    • Good knowledge of supplier or third-party management software
    • Aptitude in decision-making and working with numbers
    • Strong leadership capabilities
    • Expertise in procuring Direct Materials is required
    • Proactive mindset to identify potential gaps in direct material needs and build the internal approval for purchasing requests, as well as work with suppliers to ensure that orders can be fulfilled accurately and timely
    • Good knowledge of supplier or third-party management software, as well as proven ability working with ERP systems 
    • Roll-up your sleeves mentality 
    • Be comfortable with a rapid-pace environment, with the ability to leverage seasoned skills in purchasing & supplier negotiations, while operating at the speed of a start-up

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

    • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Logistics or a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
    • 5+ years of experience in a Supervisor or Manager level role within Purchasing / Procurement
