We are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to come join our fast-growing company as we prepare for our next phase of rapid growth!

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate and work cross functionally with other engineering teams (Core, Payments, Risk, etc.) to solve complex problems and/or launch new products and/or features.
• Serve as a mentor and SME on Synapse's core banking software and infrastructure, offering guidance and potential solutions to our Core and/or Payments engineering teams.
• Evaluating existing core software, card issuance and payment processing procedures to identify areas that need optimization.
• Utilizing software such as JIRA to perform efficient planning, designing, and development with a keen eye for setting attainable and actionable deadlines.
• Provide technical leadership for teams that focus on the stability and scalability of our BaaS platform.
• Work with engineering directors to define product roadmaps, translating roadmaps into functional specs and sprints.
• Hands on designing, coding, testing and automating for critical modules of Synapse product initiatives.
• Participate and influence code reviews, design reviews for robust and scalable products , working across Core and Payments engineering teams.
• Mentor engineers on design and industry standard coding practices
• Prototype high quality solutions for complex software problems and implement for production.
• Leverage the best of Synapse’s stack, build from the ground up when necessary in order to create and debug existing production issues.
• Take ownership and maintain accountability of your work from ideation to deployment within established deadlines.
• Develop polished, testable, and trustworthy systems that eliminate manual tasks.
• A general concern for the wellbeing of others and the desire to work on problems that maximize a positive future for humanity.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, and/or any other related field.
• 6+ years of production experience, core fundamentals, and/or related professional backend engineering experience
• 3+ years of leading a small engineering team, preferably within the financial services space.
• Strong command of Python programming language with a love for writing tests.
• Experience with MongoDB, MySQL, ELK and Redis databases a plus but not required.
• Having experience in building large scale systems to solve challenging and complex issues
• Along with Python, we use flask to build APIs, docker to containerize them, rancher to deploy and orchestrate, AWS to host, CircleCI to test (and obviously Github in between all this). So experience with this stack is a plus, but not a necessity.
