Position Overview
The Quality Assistant will provide direct, hands-on support to ensure that all products meet the required quality standards for defense and manufacturing operations. This role focuses on practical inspection, testing, and documentation tasks on the production floor. The ideal candidate will work closely with operators, supervisors, and the Quality Control Manager to verify product conformity, identify non-conformances, and support continuous improvement of production processes.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection and Testing
· Perform in-process and final inspections of mechanical and electrical assemblies using measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
· Verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
· Conduct sample checks, visual inspections, and functional testing as needed.
· Document inspection results in ERP and quality logs with high accuracy.
Quality Process Support
· Support root cause investigations by providing inspection data and observations from the shop floor.
· Assist in preparing non-conformance reports (NCRs) and tracking corrective actions.
· Verify reworked or repaired items meet acceptance criteria before release.
· Maintain proper identification, segregation, and documentation of defective materials.
Technical Documentation & Compliance
· Ensure all inspection records, traveler sheets, and logs are filled correctly and filed in compliance with ISO, ITAR, and AS9100 requirements.
· Assist in preparing documentation for internal audits and customer inspections.
· Follow and enforce quality standards, safety requirements, and lean manufacturing practices.
Production & Shipping Interface
· Coordinate with production supervisors to ensure timely inspections without delaying workflow.
· Support final quality checks before products are released to shipping/receiving.
· Monitor and record product quality trends to support continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
· Education: Minimum Associate Degree required (Bachelor’s or equivalent technical degree is preferred).
· Experience: 2+ years in quality control, inspection, or manufacturing environment (defense/aerospace preferred).
· Hands-on experience with inspection tools and gauges.
· Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality management systems is desirable. Familiarity with ERP systems for quality recording.
· Strong attention to detail, technical mindset, and ability to work independently on the production floor.
· Good communication skills for interacting with operators, engineers, and managers.
