The Opportunity
The Quality Assurance Engineer I is responsible for administering and improving the company’s quality management system, with a primary focus on non-conformance management, corrective actions, and ISO 9001 compliance. This role manages NCRs, CARs, and customer warranty investigations while supporting internal and supplier audits to ensure consistent quality performance across operations.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain quality processes in accordance with ISO 9001 standards.
- Manage the lifecycle of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Corrective Action Requests (CARs).
- Lead root cause investigations and coordinate corrective and preventive actions across departments.
- Track corrective actions to closure and verify effectiveness.
- Investigate and resolve customer warranty claims and quality issues.
- Interface with customers regarding quality concerns and corrective actions.
- Provide technical support related to quality documentation and reporting.
- Conduct internal quality audits to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and company quality procedures.
- Participate in external and customer audits.
- Perform supplier and vendor audits to evaluate quality system performance.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to address quality deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor supplier performance and support improvement initiatives to reduce delays and defects.
- Identify trends in NCRs and CARs and implement corrective strategies to prevent recurrence.
- Support initiatives aimed at improving shop quality performance and reducing defects.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement to improve quality outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related technical discipline required.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in quality engineering or quality assurance within a manufacturing environment.
- Direct experience working within an ISO 9001 quality management system.
- Experience managing NCR/CAR processes and conducting root cause analysis.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and quality management systems.
- Experience performing internal and supplier audits.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis methodologies (5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple quality investigations simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills for working with internal teams, vendors, and customers.
