Job Description:
The Quality Control Chemist is responsible for performing chemical, physical, and organoleptical testing on raw materials, bulk products, in-process samples, and finished cosmetic goods. This role plays a key part in ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of personal care products throughout the production lifecycle including manufacturing, filling, and packaging stages by adhering to GMP, GLP, and regulatory standards.
This role reports to Quality Manager
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Conduct analytical testing on raw materials, bulk products, and finished cosmetic products using methods such as pH, viscosity, specific gravity, color, odor, appearance, and stability assessments.
Inspect and test products which are manufactured, filled & packaged to ensure compliance with quality standards (e.g., fill weight, seal integrity, packaging cleanliness, and labeling accuracy).
Perform in-process checks during manufacturing, filling and packaging operations to monitor compliance with established specifications and SOPs.
Monitor overall cleanliness across operational areas to ensure compliance with hygiene and quality standards.
Document test results accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and company procedures.
Support investigation of non-conformances, product complaints, and deviations, and assist in root cause analysis.
Collaborate with all related departments to troubleshoot quality issues observed during product testing, manufacturing, filling or processing
Participate in method development by testing and verification of the approved cosmetic formulations
Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment used for cosmetic product testing
Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, and other relevant cosmetic industry regulations and internal quality standards
Assist in the creation, review, and revision of batch records, test methods and SOP’s
Conduct routine and non-routine physical, chemical and organoleptic testing of cosmetic raw materials and final products
Perform stability and compatibility testing as part of product development and shelf-life validation.
Create final product Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for the release of shipments in accordance with quality specifications and regulatory requirements
Assist in preparing documentation for audits and regulatory inspections
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
1–3 years of QC laboratory experience in the cosmetic, personal care, or pharmaceutical industry preferred.
Familiarity with GMP, ISO standards, and cosmetic regulations (e.g., FDA, ISO 22716).
Strong attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Proficient with Microsoft Office & Google Office Suites
Familiarity with laboratory software/systems.
Work Time: 8:00 am-5:00 pm, M-F
