Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and self-reliant AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform comprehensive inspections of welds in both shop and field settings. The ideal candidate will ensure all welding activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and procedures while identifying and reporting any discrepancies to the Quality Assurance Manager.
This role requires a detail-oriented professional with deep expertise in welding processes, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently in dynamic environments.
Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to all company and project safety programs, policies, procedures, and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of welds for compliance with specifications and standards.
Verify welding procedures, qualifications, and related documentation.
Identify and report welding defects and non-conformances.
Maintain accurate inspection records and generate detailed inspection reports.
Collaborate with welders, supervisors, and QA personnel to resolve quality issues.
Administer welder performance qualification tests and maintain welder continuity logs.
Travel to field sites as required to conduct on-site inspections.
Assist in continuous improvement of welding practices and quality assurance procedures.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills and Attributes
Required Certification
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential (Required)
Experience & Knowledge
3–5 years of welding inspection experience, preferably in both shop and field environments
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Procore for reporting and documentation
Strong working knowledge of AWS codes including D1.1, D1.3, D1.4, and D1.6
Proficient in visual inspection techniques and familiar with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods
Experienced in mechanical testing for welder performance qualification coupons
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings
Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Experience mentoring or training junior inspectors or welders
Hands-on experience as a welder in shop or field environments
Associate’s degree in engineering or related construction/welding field
Work Schedule / Conditions
Hours
Standard: 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Monday – Friday)
Schedule may vary when working in the field; hours to be determined by management based on daylight and project needs
Work Environment
Regularly works in a warehouse/shop setting
Frequent work in field environments; must maintain high situational awareness and safety consciousness
Environment subject to temperature changes, heights, and potential hazards
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance or lifting devices
Ability to walk, hear, and see in order to perform essential job functions
Must have good balance and agility; willingness to work at heights is required
