We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Control Supervisor to lead and oversee all quality assurance and quality control functions within our food container manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all products meet regulatory, safety, and customer requirements, with a strong focus on food-grade compliance, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement a facility QMS aligned to ISO 9001:2015 requirements, supporting the organization's path to certification within 12–18 months of operational launch
Establish document control infrastructure including SOPs, work instructions, inspection plans, and change control procedures
Develop and maintain the Master Validation Plan covering equipment, processes, cleaning, and packaging line qualification
Lead internal audit program and manage third-party audit readiness, including pre-assessment gap analysis and corrective action closure
Build and deploy a robust CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) system with root cause analysis rigor (8D, Fishbone, 5-Why)
Implement and maintain a GFSI-benchmarked Food Safety Management System — SQF, BRCGS Packaging, or FSSC 22000 — appropriate for a Tier 1 aluminum packaging supplier serving food and foodservice customers
Develop and oversee the Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventative Controls (HARPC) program, including prerequisite programs (PRPs) for allergen control, pest management, environmental monitoring, and sanitation
Maintain compliance with FDA food contact substance regulations (21 CFR Parts 174–186) and applicable indirect food additive requirements for aluminum and coated packaging materials
Manage metal migration and food contact material (FCM) testing protocols in alignment with FDA, EU Regulation No. 10/2011, and customer-specific requirements
Build readiness for FSMA 204 traceability obligations as they apply to foodservice packaging supply chain participants
Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations including PFAS restrictions (multiple state-level phase-outs), Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) packaging legislation, and CONEG/Model Toxics heavy metals standards
Support ESG/sustainability reporting obligations including GRI Standards, ISSB IFRS S1/S2, California SB 253 (CSCA), and customer-driven sustainability disclosure requirements
Maintain substance compliance documentation for aluminum alloys, coatings, lacquers, and inks using a specification management system (REACH, RoHS, California Prop 65, Safer Choice where applicable)
Develop and execute the Supplier Qualification and Approval Program (SQAP) covering aluminum coil suppliers, coating and lacquer suppliers, ink and label vendors, and contract converters
Establish incoming inspection criteria and AQL sampling plans for raw materials and components; implement statistical process control (SPC) methods for critical material characteristics
Conduct or coordinate supplier audits (desktop and on-site) against GFSI, ISO 9001, and customer-specific quality requirements
Manage supplier corrective action requests (SCARs) and maintain supplier performance scorecards
Respond to customer deviations, concessions, and 8D reports within required timelines with verified root cause and sustainable corrective actions
Prepare and maintain customer-required quality documentation including Certificates of Conformance, Material Safety Data, Food Safety Declarations, and Substance Compliance Attestations
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required in Food Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field
Graduate degree (M.S.) a plus; advanced coursework in quality systems, food safety, or regulatory affairs highly desirable
Strong knowledge of food safety standards and regulations (FDA, GMP, HACCP, ISO 9001)
Minimum 3 years of progressive quality management experience in a manufacturing environment; packaging, metal forming, or food contact materials experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience building or significantly rebuilding a QMS from the ground up at a manufacturing startup or turnaround facility
Prior experience as a lead auditor, site quality representative, or primary customer quality contact in a GFSI-certified facility
Technical Skills
Experience with quality systems, statistical process control (SPC), and root cause analysis tools
Knowledge of testing methods for durability, contamination, and compliance
Proficiency in quality management software and Microsoft Office
Physical & Work Environment
Primarily based in a manufacturing plant environment
Regular presence on the production floor required
Exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures
Must follow strict safety and hygiene protocols
