Position Overview
The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all incoming materials, in-process components, and finished products meet established mechanical and manufacturing specifications. This role requires strong technical proficiency, hands-on inspection experience, and the ability to identify, analyze, and document nonconformities in a fast-paced industrial environment. The Quality Inspector will perform mechanical inspections using precision measurement tools, support root-cause investigations, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Candidates should bring three to five years of experience in industrial manufacturing—preferably in serial or mass production—and a solid understanding of quality standards, inspection methods, and mechanical concepts. This position works closely with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to maintain product integrity and ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct quality monitoring and inspection of incoming materials, semi-finished products, and final products to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve a reliable inspection strategy based on specific requirements and statistical test cycles.
- Investigate the root causes of defects and recommend corrective and preventive actions to address quality issues.
- Utilize standard quality tools—including Cause and Effect Diagrams, Pareto analysis, 8D reports, and audit methodologies—as part of daily activities.
- Maintain accurate and current acceptance, rejection, and certification records in accordance with applicable specifications.
- Determine acceptance or rejection of parts after inspection and/or calibration, identifying defective conditions and documenting all findings, including calibration history.
- Interpret, evaluate, and document inspection results following approved procedures and quality standards.
- Observe all safety rules, regulations, and maintain a FOD-free work environment.
- Perform semi-complex inspections on machined components using a wide range of precision measuring instruments to assess part quality and finish.
- Adapt and develop inspection setups to evaluate sample parts effectively.
- Conduct first article inspections, envelope inspections, source inspections, and semi-complex surface plate setups.
- Identify causes of defective conditions and test failures, generating appropriate documentation and reports.
- Investigate customer return failures to determine root cause and support corrective action.
- Diagnose, calibrate, and validate newly acquired inspection equipment.
- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Three to five years of hands-on experience as a Quality Inspector or similar role within an industrial manufacturing environment; experience in serial or mass production preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to interpret mechanical drawings, engineering specifications, GD&T, and technical documentation.
- Solid understanding of common quality tools and methodologies, including 5 Whys, Ishikawa diagrams, Pareto analysis, 8D, and root-cause problem-solving techniques.
- Experience conducting first article inspections, in-process inspections, receiving inspections, and final inspections.
- Familiarity with statistical sampling plans and inspection strategies based on specific or statistical test cycles.
- Ability to identify nonconformities, determine acceptance/rejection criteria, and document findings in accordance with quality procedures.
- Experience working within ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality management systems.
- Competence in completing and maintaining accurate records, inspection reports, and traceable documentation.
- Ability to diagnose quality issues, analyze causes of defects, and support corrective/preventive action processes.
- Basic understanding of calibration practices, equipment verification, and metrology principles.
- Strong computer skills, including experience with inspection software, ERP/MRP systems, MS Office, and digital documentation tools.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Supplier teams.
- Must be able to lift, move, or position parts and equipment as required and comply with all safety and FOD-control procedures.
