Quality Manager (Heavy Industrial Manufacturing)
Whatcom County
A local heavy industrial manufacturer is seeking a Quality Manager to strengthen the connection between the shop floor, documentation, and reporting. In this role, you’ll own the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure day-to-day production and long-lead projects are supported by accurate records, strong traceability, and repeatable processes.
The ideal candidate will have a background in industrial manufacturing—ideally steel/metals—with hands-on experience in ISO 9001, documentation control, and continuous improvement. NDT experience is a big plus (and an ASNT Level III profile would be a standout), along with the ability to partner closely with production to keep quality proactive, not a bottleneck.
Quality Manager Responsibilities:
- Own and maintain the QMS (ISO 9001), including procedures, controls, and continuous improvement
- Ensure document control + reporting accuracy across daily production and multi-year projects
- Lead documentation intake and filing so records are complete, findable, and audit-ready
- Manage a doc control team (3 people) and improve workflows, accountability, and consistency
- Drive traceability for materials and product (certs/MTRs, lot/heat tracking, travelers/routers, inspection records)
- Lead NCR/MRB/CAPA processes (root cause, containment, corrective/preventive actions)
- Conduct/coordinate internal audits and support customer/supplier audits as needed
- Partner with production leaders to improve quality outcomes without slowing down throughput
- Oversee inspection/testing requirements (incoming, in-process, final) and ensure results are documented properly
- Manage calibration program and measurement/inspection system controls
- Support supplier quality for long-lead materials and documentation completeness
Quality Manager Qualifications:
- Minimum 7+ years related work experience including a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Quality leadership experience in a manufacturing environment (job shop / high-mix / heavy industrial preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and practical QMS ownership
- Comfortable living on the data + documentation side (record integrity, reporting, traceability, audits)
- Experience with metals / steel / fabrication environments
- Able to juggle priorities and “pick up where you left off” across long-lead, multi-year projects
Benefits & Appreciation:
- Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision) – 85% paid by employer ( for employee + dependent)
- 401k with 4% match
- Generous PTO
- Stable company culture with long-tenured team members and leadership succession planning
Compensation: $120,000 - $150,000+ (DOE)
