About Portland to USL: A new ownership group is launching a USL League One franchise to begin play in 2025 in Portland, Maine, and the club is searching for a Chief Business Officer to help lay the groundwork for what will be one of the premier franchises in League One. The club is seeking an executive to help develop and execute its long-term vision for the franchise and the greater Portland and Maine regions.

Position Summary: With supportive ownership and founding team, the Chief Business Officer will be responsible for hiring team staff and will have all the ingredients to help create a first-class professional sports franchise while also helping to elevate the city. The preferred candidate will be committed to fostering an environment for the team to excel on the field, in the office and in the community, serving as a leader and team-builder, delivering an unrivaled experience for fans, and building a better community. This position will report directly to Club Chairman.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lead and direct all Club business and commercial operations.
• Help develop and implement business plan for new professional soccer franchise.
• Help oversee and provide strategic direction for Club's core initiatives.
• Help set and execute ownership's long-term vision for the Club – on the field, in the office and in the community.
• Participate in USL onboarding process, key tentpole announcements, events, business operations and objectives.
• Hire highly driven staff and other personnel with the vision of building a first-class organization.
• Create the opportunity and environment and provide support for the Technical Staff to successfully implement the Club's Soccer Operations strategy.
• Work closely with ownership and other partners to find or build a long-term stadium solution.
• Lead Club's expansion into new ancillary revenue opportunities.
• Represent the Club at a multitude of regional and community events.
• Grow and foster a team-first culture.
• Other duties as requested by Club ownership.

Essential Skills, Experience and Abilities:

• Experience in the professional sports or entertainment business.
• Passion for sports and a keen understanding of soccer preferred.
• Understanding of the Club's business model and ability to drive revenue.
• Alignment with Club's core mission and values around social responsibility and community impact.
• Team builder and team player with the ability to manage across a diverse organization.
• Ability to connect with the Club's staff, partners, fans and players.
• Demonstrated quick learner with ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Comfortable addressing large groups in a public-speaking role.
• Proven record of generating ideas and creative solutions and building strong relationships with key stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
• Forward-thinking and creative leader who can excel in a start-up-like environment.
• Entrepreneurial and highly driven executive that can professionally relate and inspire all levels of staff, management, partners, supporters, and clientele.
• Openness to going above and beyond ‘typical' expectations for executive role.

Educational Background Required:

• Bachelor's degree required - Advanced degree a plus.
