    Job Description

    SUMMARY: The content marketing specialist’s primary focus is the planning, creation and publishing of content in order to support marketing efforts at Queens University. The specialist develops a content plan that is intended to engage various audiences throughout multiple channels while continually measuring progress. This position requires close collaboration with all members of the Marketing and Communications team as well as campus partners to develop on-brand, compelling, cohesive and effective work.

    While some remote work is possible, there is a preference for mostly in-person work at the university’s campus in Charlotte.

    The Content Marketing Strategist reports to the Director of Marketing. This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include

    • Working collaboratively with the director of marketing, help execute a content marketing strategy that effectively uses content in order to fuel growth and elevate the Queens University brand.
    • Manage content ideation, gathering, production and tracking.
    • Write brand-enhancing stories and tailor that content for specific audiences and specific channels.
    • Lead content planning including management of ideas and stories, content calendars, tracking, etc.
    • Effectively repurpose pieces of content for multiple audiences and multiple channels including digital, print, out-of-home, etc.
    • Analyze content metrics including views, clicks and other engagement.
    • Have deep understanding of the Queens University brand and be able to find and promote stories that align with the brand.
    • Work collaboratively with Multimedia Director to produce high-quality brand-enhancing visual content including photos and videos.
    • Work collaboratively with the Director of PR and Communications in order to effectively use content on owned channels including website and social media.
    • Work with campus partners and university leaders to collect story ideas and execute content.
    • Use available platforms to gain audience insights that will help guide content marketing strategies.
    • Monitor issues, trends, best practices and emerging strategies in higher education marketing and communications for incorporation into the University’s marketing strategies.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Experience, Knowledge & Skills Required

    • At least two to four years of content marketing experience, with experience in higher education strongly preferred.
    • Brand management, advertising and digital communication experience preferred.
    • Strong writing skills required, including writing that aligns with and promotes an institutional brand. Knowledge of AP Style is required.
    • Experience building content plans for a variety of channels is preferred.
    • Experience executing marketing campaigns, including planning, testing, tracking and analysis is preferred.
    • Ability to successfully multi-task many projects of various sizes and priorities.
    • Confidence and comfort working with multiple departments, personalities and/or outside vendors or freelancers in order to complete projects on time and within scope.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) and customer service skills that translate to all levels of management.
    • Knowledge or ability to learn Basecamp project management software.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to consistently develop creative solutions.
    • Outgoing personality and the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
    • Proven ability to constructively challenge co-workers, clients and vendors to achieve stated objectives.
    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
