    Job Description

    SUMMARY : The Spiritual Life Graduate Assistant will learn about and work with the Chaplain’s team, learning to create opportunities for students to draw from their ‘religious, spiritual and secular wells’ as part of their holistic well-being. The Graduate Assistant will also learn and apply learning in a collaborative manner with the team to create brave spaces in which students may critically and openly engage diverse religious, spiritual, and secular worldviews. This Graduate Assistant is supervised by the University Chaplain. The successful candidate must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Queens University of Charlotte. This position offers tuition remission for up to three (3) courses per semester, including summer, if actively serving in the graduate assistant role. The Graduate Assistant will be provided with a campus-dining plan during the academic year (5 meals/week), free on-campus parking, and membership to the Levine Fitness Center. No stipend for housing is included. There is no expressed or implied commitment to a paid position upon completion of the internship. The Spiritual Life Graduate Assistant’s commitment is 20 hours per week and begins on July 5, 2023.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Learn and assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of key Belk Chapel programs and gatherings, including the Moravian Love Feast; Diwali; Presbyterian and Pluralist week; Potlucks for Pluralism; Belk Chapel Book Study; Room in the Inn; Chapel Coffee and Croissants.
    • Learn and assist in the collaborative interfaith work of the Chaplain’s Office in liaison with the coordinator or Muslim Life and the coordinator of Jewish Life.
    • Learn and assist in the monitoring and updating of the Spiritual Life website.
    • Learn and apply knowledge to create promotional material for programming events, including fliers and social media updates.
    • Assist in creating a database of diverse religious, spiritual and secular access points and support communities within and beyond the Queens campus.
    • Learn and participate in the leadership and hosting of Belk Chapel/Spiritual Life programs and events.
    • Learn and assist the database tracking of programs created by the office of the chaplain in which faculty, staff and students openly engage diverse religious, spiritual and secular worldviews.
    • Learn and assist in the creation of a database of organizations providing volunteer service opportunities for students, both on campus and within the wider community.
    • Learn and assist in leading student surveys of interest in particular areas of service, ensuring equitable opportunities are available for students from diverse religious, spiritual and secular identities.
    • Learn to construct and conduct evaluations of student experiences to assess the level of student engagement and personal growth during the volunteer service experience.
    • Assist students and other guests who visit the Belk Chapel office.
    • GAs are considered mandatory reporters under Title IX and the Clery Act.

    • Current and sustained enrollment in a graduate program at Queens University of Charlotte.
    • Experience working in the realm of spiritual life and/or the interfaith movement.
    • Proven ability to quickly learn and apply new skills at an acceptable level of performance.
    • Skills in communication, social media, and website technology.
    • Possess leadership skills and the ability to work effectively within teams.
    • Easily approachable and able to establish and maintain strong rapport with students.
    • Ability to use discretion and exercise good judgment.
    • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information.
