Job Description
We are looking for a Project Accountant to join our team! You will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial records for our company. This position will partner with key operations personnel and serve as a trusted financial advisor to operations by tracking and analyzing actual real-time job cost expenditures and purchases daily, timely identifying and communicating actual cost to budget variances, areas for potential budget overruns, and ensure billings to the customer are completed timely, accurately and in compliance with contract terms.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Timely review job detail and prepare any necessary correcting or reclass journal entries as part of month-end closing process.
- Review contract documents and prepare job set up in ERP system.
- Coordinate job closures with key operations personnel and other members of Accounting Team according to policy.
- Generate job cost reports and analyze findings, comparing actual to budget, to be reviewed with key operations personnel on a scheduled basis.
- Work closely with key purchasing and operations personnel to monitor open purchase orders for completeness and validity.
- Manage Job Cost Administrators to ensure all costs are timely entered to jobs and invoiced to customers.
- Bill customers as needed.
- Maintain billing and burden rate schedules in ERP system and ensure such schedules are current and approved by appropriate parties.
- Coordinate the month end job cost forecasting process to ensure the timely submission of cost-to-complete
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Proficient in computer software programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Proficient with company’s ERP software
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Ability to read and interpret various construction contracts
- Detail oriented
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting practices
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize to meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Perform other ad hoc accounting-related tasks as may be assigned by supervisor from time to time
EDUCATION, LICENSES & EXPERIENCE:
- Three years demonstrated experience in successfully executing the primary responsibilities in a construction environment is required
- Experience in the oil and gas industry is a plus
