    Job Description

     

    Position Overview: The Recovery Support Specialist assists substance abuse, mentally impaired, and emotionally disturbed patients, working under direction of nursing and medical staff. May assist with daily living activities, leads patients in educational and recreational activities, or may accompany patients to and from examinations and treatments. May restrain violent patients. Includes psychiatric orderlies. Participates in the delivery of individual client care.

     

    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Monitors patients, provides security checks through shift, completes documentation to include but not limited to log book, level cards, monitors patient's activities and records patient behavior.
    • Assist in telephone intakes.
    • Participate in direct patient care including ensuring patient safety, interacting therapeutically.
    • Assist in activities of daily living transports; assists with physical de-escalation and the monitoring of patients.
    • Understands the principles of 12-Step Programs and how they apply to the recovery process of the addicted client.
    • Aids and instructs clients in facilitation and presentation of the 12-Step self-help recovery groups.
    • Flexible to meet patient and staff needs.
    • Identifies and documents adolescent client behaviors.
    • May be required to transport patients to and from appointments.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum requirement of Alcohol & Drug Trainee (ADT) credential for the State of MD: (1)Associates Degree or higher in a: (a) Health and human services counseling field from a regionally accredited educational institution, which includes 1 semester credit hour or 2 quarter credit hours in the ethics of alcohol and drug counseling; or (b) Program of studies determined by the Board to be substantially equivalent, which includes 1 semester credit hour or 2 quarter credit hours in the ethics of alcohol and drug counseling; or (2) Have completed 15 semester credits or 25 quarter credits from among the topic areas specified in Regulation .03B including: (a) 15 continuing education units (CEU's) in the ethics of alcohol and drug counseling; or (b) 1 semester credit hour or 2 quarter credit hours in the ethics of alcohol and drug counseling from an accredited educational institution.

    • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.

    • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

    • Must have strong knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets and presentations (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

    • Some familiarity with behavior modification or 12-step modality Understands need for and maintains.

    • Demonstrates appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with patients, residents, families, visitors, referral sources and all other contacts.

    • Exhibits excellent customer relation skills as evidenced by supportive and constructive communication with all contacts including coworkers, patients, residents, visitors, families and referral sources.

    Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

     

    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

     

    Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
