    TITLE: Shredding Technician (Shred Tech)             

    DEPARTMENT: Custodial

    WAGE CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt min. wage         

    SUPERVISOR: Jason Champaco

    SUMMARY POSITION STATEMENT:

    Shredding Technician's (Shred Tech's) perform the job duties necessary to securely destroy confidential information.  These duties may include; operating industrial sized paper shredding machines, sorting confidential material and preparing it to be shredded, properly disposing shredded material at Waste Management, and making pick-ups within the community at various locations.  Participates in trainings and staff meeting as may be scheduled by supervisor.  Other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.  All Shred Tech's are required to wear a uniform shirt and photo identification badge at all times while on duty.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

    • SORTING:  Preparing material for the shredding machine by removing unnecessary materials such as paper clips, black clasps, rubber bands, and any type of material that may be harmful to the shredding machine.
    • SHREDDING:  Shred Tech's are responsible for properly and safely shredding all material in the assigned box with the aid of job coach supervision.  Before an employee uses a shredding machine, they shall first go through the proper training on how to use the particular machine.
    • PICK-UPS:  Shred Tech's may accompany job coaches on pick-ups within the community.  Professional appearance is a requirement.
    • RECYCLING RUNS:  Shred Tech's may accompany job coaches on taking shredded material to Waste Management to be properly disposed of.  All material will be dumped in the appropriate bins.      
    • ADEQUATE WEAR:  All Shred Tech's are required to wear a uniform shirt and photo identification badge at all times while on duty.  Employees are not allowed to wear dangling jewelry or loose fitting shirts that may potentially get caught in a shredding machine.  Sandals or open-toed shoes are prohibited.

    OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including NAID requirements, dress code, confidentiality standards, etc.
    • Ensure confidentiality as prescribed by agency policy and federal/state law.
    • Maintain a clean work area.
    • Sign-in and out before entering and upon leaving the REACH Shredding facility.
    • Maintain and promote a positive professional working relationship with all employees.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Any and all requirements necessary to obtain and maintain NAID certification.
    • Ability to operate the shredding equipment safely.
    • Reading of material is strictly prohibited and highly enforced.
    • Ability to comply with directions given.
    • Minimum age of 18 years.

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:  No experience necessary 

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to perform sedentary work. Ability to stand and bend for long periods of time.  Ability to lift twenty-five pounds (assistance of job coach available).  Possess adequate hand-eye coordination to dismantle files.  Ability to communicate with supervisor as needed.     

    WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed at the REACH Shredding facility.  This facility is equipped with 24/7/365 video surveillance, motion detector, and alarm system.  Each employee is required to undergo an extensive background check, fingerprinting, time study, and drug-testing prior to employment.
