  • Responsibilities

    The Psychiatrist serves as the Medical Director for the Center for Behavioral Health overseeing medical/psychiatric services provided to patients of our (Substance Use, Harm Reduction, and Mental Health) outpatient programs.They will contribute to the development and service of policies and procedures related to care and to the quality of care offered to patients by designing and implementing education, training, and evidence based treatment updates for the medical and clinical staff. As part of the essential functions for this position, the Psychiatrist will:

     

    • Diagnose, prescribe medication, monitor medication side effects and participate in the treatment process for clients/patients of our Behavioral Health programs
    • Contribute to the quality of care offered to patients/clients by designing and implementing education, training, and evidence based treatment updates for the medical and clinical staff
    • Serve as Medical Director of the association’s behavioral health programs, with oversight of the medical/psychiatric services provided therein
    • Provide direct clinical care and staff consultation within Mental Health and Substance Use programs
    • Provide leadership in creating services that are aligned with the principles of harm reduction, medication assisted treatment, and trauma informed care
    • Supervise staff in the performance of medical/psychiatric services, including other MD, DO, NP, and PA personnel in the behavioral health programs
    • Develop functional protocols for medical prescribers working in psychiatric and substance use programs
    • Provide education and clinical oversight to medical and non-medical staff
    • Provide a medication assisted treatment, harm reduction, and trauma informed care perspective in the development of policies and procedures that govern clinical care in the substance use and/or mental health programs

    Qualified Candidate will be Licensed in NYS to practice Psychiatry (with federal data 2000 waiver (buprenorphine certified) preferred).

     - Licensed Physician in NYS with Addiction Medicine certification and federal data 2000 waiver (buprenorphine certified) considered.

     

    - Licensed Physician who has received the doctor of medicine (MD) or doctor of osteopathy (DO) degree and currently registered as such by the New York State Education Department with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience, and at least three (3) years of experience in substance use disorder services considered.

     

    - Must have or be willing to obtain within a designated period of time either a sub-specialty board certification in addiction psychiatry from the American Board of Medical Specialties, or hold a Certification by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.

     

    Sensitivity to HIV/AIDS, addiction, cultural and LGBT issues essential. Candidate must possess valid NYS driver’s license and insured, dependable vehicle for use for work activities.
