    Turbidity Monitors Needed

    REMSA Inc. Coastal & Marine Division is seeking skilled and experienced Independent Contracting Turbidity Monitors to conduct water quality monitoring during dredging projects. Since 1999, REMSA, Inc. has been involved in providing Protected Species Observers and Turbidity Monitors to the dredging industry in support of environmental compliance for clam-shell, hopper dredge and other offshore industrial operations requiring compliance in accordance with environmental regulations and permits.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Turbidity Monitors will conduct water quality monitoring during dredging projects on various waterways along the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico in the United States. Monitors will be required to perform duties in adverse/inclement weather aboard vessels at sea. Must be able to work independently and follow technical instructions as required.

    Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

    Conduct water quality monitoring using various turbidity meters

    Calibrate turbidity meters on a daily basis; complete and submit daily calibration forms

    Conform to project specifications and permits as they relate to when and where monitoring needs to occur

    Complete and submit daily water quality readings

    Compile maps and record GPS coordinates of sampling locations

    Notify appropriate personnel when turbidity limits exceed specified values

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Must have previous experience conducting turbidity monitoring

    Must be competent with data collection, biological sampling, and data sheet completion

    Must be a U.S. Citizen or have authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or restrictions

    Must have a valid Driver’s License & Clean Driving Record

    Must be able to lift 50 pounds, operate in confined spaces, and climb ladders aboard ships and crew boats

    Must have a Federal TWIC clearance (the physical card must be on hand prior to accepting work assignments)

    Education:

    Bachelors Degree in Marine Biology, Biology, Marine Ecology or similar education with at least one year of specialized experience. Extensive

    exposure and knowledge through experience will be considered.

    BENEFITS & SALARY:

    This is an Independent Contractor position; pay rates vary with project location and scope of work

    Travel expenses to/from project locations are the responsibility of the observer

    Lodging and meals may be provided depending on project

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    Candidates do not need to reside in the local area but must have a flexible schedule and able to travel to assignments. Candidates living on the East Coast & Gulf of Mexico are strongly preferred.
