    REMSA Inc. Coastal & Marine Division is seeking skilled and experienced Independent Contracting Boat Captains/Operators to conduct surveying operations for a (dredging and pile driving) project on the waterways within the Boston Harbor, Massachusetts area.

    JOB DESCRIPTION: The Boat Captain/s will operate the Company-owned survey vessel during daylight hours (up to 12 hours w/a 2-hour minimum recall) and active dredging and pile driving activities. The Captain will oversee the smooth operation of the entire vessel IAW Federal, State, local laws and regulatory guidance. The Captain has the overall authority and responsibility of taking necessary actions as it pertains to safety, pollution prevention and the efficient operation of the vessel.

    Job include, but are not limited to the following:

    Responsible for the safety and security all of passengers/crew onboard the vessel.

    Report non-conformities, accidents and injuries involving personnel or equipment and hazardous situations to the Company, as well as USCG.

    Ensure compliance with the maritime, federal, state and local law, to include other regulations in accordance with the USCG basic water-safety guidelines.

    Observe weather and water conditions closely and take proper actions when necessary; adjust navigation as appropriate.

    Review of onboard contingency plans and procedures; report any deficiencies to management.

    Analyze maps and record GPS coordinates of sampling locations.

    Understand and comply with standard procedures and guidelines for the operation of a safe and environmentally sound vessels/boats.

    Conduct daily inspections of the assigned vessel to ensure seaworthy condition and arrange for maintenance and repair activities to correct any damages as required.

    Adhere to the policies and work-related specs as required.

    Ensure hull penetrations or any structural deformations or cracks receive personal and immediate attention.

    Report repairs or maintenance involving navigation equipment that needs onshore assistance and/or coordination for repair.

    Ensure all docking locations are secure as required.

    Plan and implement routine visual inspections of the vessel for the purpose of maintaining vessel security, sanitation and general cleanliness (daily), Complete thorough (weekly) inspections, and general cleanliness (daily), document inspection results.

    Ensure crew behavior and performance supports the Company's and Client’s Mission.

    Ensure Vessel is ready to support daily project requirements.

    Submit prompt written and verbal incident reports to the Company and Clients as required.

    Ensure Certificate of Inspection is always upheld and complies with all USCG navigation laws and regulations, compliance with F.D.A., CDC and other regulatory bodies affecting the vessel.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    Education: High School diploma or equivalent Required

    Bachelor's Degree or higher preferred in a related field.

    Five to ten years minimum experience in a position with similar duties and responsibilities operating a survey vessel.

    U.S. Citizen or have authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or restrictions.

    Possess a Professional Certification(s) and or Captain License. (REQUIRED)

    FCC Marine Radio Operations license.

    Radar certification (endorsement necessary as per vessel).

    USCG license which satisfies the COI requirements for the applicable vessel.

    Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) - if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain (the physical card must be on hand prior to accepting work).

    Valid MMC.

    Valid Driver's License and Favorable Driving record.

    Skills & Abilities:

    Experience operating a small vessel during marine construction projects.

    Excellent verbal and written communications skills; must be fluent in English.

    Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner.

    Strong knowledge of maritime laws and procedures.

    Must have the ability to adapt to changing conditions and respond to emergency situations.

    Ability to lift 50 pounds, operate in confined spaces, and climb ladders aboard ships and crew boats when required.

    Ability to perform duties in adverse/inclement weather.

    Must be able to work independently and follow instructions.

    Salary: This is an Independent Contract position; pay rates vary with years of experience and education.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Selected Contractor must have a flexible schedule and ability to travel to assignments. East Coast based Contractors are strongly preferred.
